[PB70] Charriu tries to promote the arts again

(April 6th, 2023, 01:21)Charriu Wrote: In other great news as you can see I finished my first great scientist and used him for an academy in the capitol. So why did I run this strategy? Well I already explained earlier that I want to focus on great scientists and even settling them (Blasphemy  yikes ). I'm basically running the same strategy from PB67, which I never got to execute to its fullest. Back in PB67 I finished Writing in T46 and the first library in T48. The first scientist was out in T58. Here in PB70 I have the following times. Writing in T49, library in T51 and first scientist out also in T58. So why am I telling you all this. Well because in PB67 I had an additional bonus in the form of the American UB Carnegie Public libary, which some players deemed overpowered. Yes, the map is different and I have a gold resource here which I didn't have in PB70, but I achieved similar times. Hopefully I can prove that the American UB is not overpowered like some people think.

But had you run two scientists in pb67 immediately like you apparently did here, you'd have had the scientist t53 wink. Ultimately, regular phi gets one in 7t, American Phi in 5. Strong but hardly gamebreaking. Although it has been speculated that the true strength of the CPL lies in getting very early engineers/merchants/artists?, by running the CPB without a specialist while getting the techs (or wonders).
For what it's worth I thing the CPL is quite powerful, but it's good, also because the minuteman is rather uninspiring.

However I am surprised that you preferred an academy over settling the first scientist. Considering that the latter option also gives a hammer I think I'd have preferred it.

Music: London Symphony Orchestra - Final Fantasy VII (Symphony in Three Movements): I. Nibelheim Incident

You cannot imagine how happy I am to share this music with you. This piece is one of the best moments related to music in my life. You probably noticed already but Final Fantasy music arrangements are plentiful, but this is probably one of the best if not the best one. But an advice of caution, if you are only out for arrangement staying close to the original you will be somewhat disappointed here.
As you may have guessed from the title already. This is part 1 of a three movement symphony by arrangeur Jonne Valtonen. You read right, symphony. He rearranged the music of Final Fantasy VII into a whole symphony and it works so well. Definitely listen to all movements for this and take your time. It's absolutely worth it. And if you can do listen to it live.

Well and should you live in England then you have a great opportunity to do just that. There are two concerts one in Birmingham and one in Newcastle. Tickets here: https://www.gameconcerts.com/tickets/
I remember when I bought the tickets for the premiere in Wuppertal back in 2013, which was sold out the same day of course. I went there with my wife and with my mother, who likes classical music, but other then Tetris hasn't played that much games. But guess who was the first to jump up from her seat for standing ovation after the concert.

As for buying this piece you can do so at bandcamp. If you want to know more about the concert and/or buy tickets you can do so at https://www.gameconcerts.com/en/welcome/.

T60:

I finally settled my 4th city: Uematsu. This will mainly be a commerce city with all the river tiles. It clearly takes advantage of having CRE as a trait, which also gives me some security towards Bing.

The city is named after the Nobuo Uematsu: I don't think the man needs much introduction. He did compose the music for pretty much every Final Fantasy game out there. But he also did lesser known titles like Final Fantasy Legend, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, The Last Story, Fantasy Life and Home Town Story. He also helped out in Chrono Trigger, Front Mission: Gun Hazard and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Oh and he also has his own Final Fantasy inspired Rock Band the Black Mages

I also discoverd Animal Husbandry in the last turns. The horses are E of the cap.

Instructions for upcoming turns

The moment has arrived, where you my dear lurkers will take over for a few days. First off all my password.

music

It's also in the first post.

Unit movements

Keep the galley near Mitsuda in my border after it is done.

I also forgot to mention the scout. It will have to go to Uematsu, but move it NE first uncovering more territory.

I already setup a tech path to follow in game. Basically Masonry->Mathematics->Currency
You will run the slider at 100% science until Currency. Then you will turn it down to 0% science for 4 turns until T71.

For espionage please let it run to scooter until it is at 44. Then pump everything into Bing.

Tin

I've already setup the production line, so you only have to move around pops working the tiles. You will always work the two deer and clam tile. The other two pop will shift and at the time will be whipped. This is probably the most complicated setup, but don't worry I check the forum regularly if there are questions.

Kondo

A tiny mistake in the picture. The T64 whip is not from a freshly grown pop. Rather you take the ivory away.

Shimomura
No picture. It's already setup and does not need any interaction

Uematsu

Mitsuda (settled in T67)

These instruction will last for 10 turns until T71, which is when I plan to take over again.

Potential issue here, I was so focused on getting the mod set up and following your instructions that I forgot about how to play Civ4 and completely overlooked this Skirmisher from BING in a position to steal the Worker at Uematsu:

I also forgot to cancel the Worker's T64 action, so it's there for him to take. Maybe he'll have mercy? Also, if he does declare war, then I presume the plans will need to change... also I technically double moved him by playing T63 + part of T64 (the queued worker action and the scout move).

Sorry, I really messed this up frown

Of course this had to happen while I'm gone even while I'm asleep. Don't be sorry.
The big question can the axeman from Shimomura get there in time to defend Uematsu?

If it isn't clear Bing attacked and took the worker. I don't know about Mjmds reload request, but it looks like everything fine with me and Bing

I don't want to say more than the minimum because I am still a global lurker with access to all the Discord channels, and I don't want to impact the game more than I already have by my mistakes here. A more observant and less rusty player would've seen the Skirmisher on T63 prior to making any moves, and then waited for your input. A reload in that sense might be helpful (i.e. pretend I never logged in on T63), especially in conjunction with changing the game from simultaneous to sequential.

I discussed it with Bing and we found a solution. And I think I even outmaneuvered Bing. You do the following for me.

Login and send him a ceasefire
He will login and accept sending an OB back
He will login and accept. He sends in the worker and gifts it back to me
He then plans to declare war again in the first half and move to the forest

What he does not know I think. Is that the OB prevents declaratios of war for 10 turns maybe.
Anyway he said he wanted to mess with me anyway so can't really stop him there.

Okay, I will do as instructed and login and send Bing a ceasefire, taking no other actions.

EDIT: Actually, I haven't logged in yet, and I recall scooter's post in the Discord saying that no one should log in until lurkers have reviewed. He doesn't know the details of this situation of course, but I don't know if I should act first before another lurker responds.

EDIT 2: Again, my apologies for being the source of this issue. I thought the game was still in a phase where I could just follow your instructions and keep the game moving, the last thing I wanted was to cause a fuss.
