[SPOILERS] Caesar Amelia of Rome

Heh heh, and now I get a 2-sentence email from timmy asking whether I want to make peace. If he had pressed his attack two turns ago I would have likely tried to sue for peace on my own, but now that I can have longbows I'm not quite so inclined. Still, I'm going to see whether he'd be amenable to some sort of agreed stalemate to allows us to both consolidate. His email followed by my response:

Quote: So, shall we continue? You've drawn blood to be sure, but I imagine you realize that is unlikely that you will do any more real damage on that front.

I wrote back:

Quote:Hello,

Yes, I was rather surprised to see my stack disappear. I noticed that your workers could re-road the tiles I pillaged after I had already ended turn, but I didn't anticipate the pile of HA.

My major objective was to destroy your city closest to me, and with that accomplished and my military reduced I also admit that I'm facing a very difficult fight to take any additional terrain. Although I do get Feudalism this turn, so we will have rough military parity. But the main value of my forces now isn't to continue burning cities, but rather to keep you occupied in the West while Moogle and scooter rip you apart elsewhere. I suppose I could then participate in the final death blows smile

I have to remain with war at you for the time being, due to some mutual arrangements between myself and scooter, but I suppose I could resist throwing another wave at you or entering your land if you'll likewise stay within your own borders and concede to me the area your former city inhabited for settling. Of course if you agree to this I'd also like some sort of tentative arrangement in place for long-term peace between our civilizations should you come out of this war wounded but not eliminated. I'm under no delusions that we launched this attack as anything other than a war of greed & aggression, and as the "bad guy" in this conflict the Universal Union of the Combine wants to be sure that we can return to civilization-building without constant fear of some inevitable Khmer retribution.

So, it looks like we'll have peace.

The terms are that scooter gets to keep whatever the city he took off timmy is called, we all have an NAP for 20 turns, auto-renewing, with a 10 turn cool-down, scooter gifts timmy a dye for as long as they have the NAP, I let timmy resettle the razed city location, and he pays me a worker for every hindu missionary spread in his lands.

I didn't really get much out of the war for myself, but I'm calling it as a great success regardless. While I did lose a fairly large army, timmy lost much more and was forced to whip his cities and shift out of builder mode. Scooter also lost a massive amount of troops, and while we are allies for this conflict he's still a major competitor, and so his losses are my gain. I have little faith in my ability to actually win this game, but I am pleased that my civ was able to play a key role in a war that slowed two otherwise runaway civs jive

Now I just have to figure out what to do about sandover... his garrisons on my border are awfully small, and he seems like he really is about to declare on TT. If I could get timmy involved in fighting sandover as well (approached him about it during peace talks, and he seemed receptive), then I think it'll be time to pay sandover back his due for all the bad karma his diplo has created.

Thanks to TT's tactical incompetence & subsequent betrayal, it looks like I'll be the first to be eliminated, assuming that we don't just end the game as a win for Sandover by consensus first.

I've offered to gift scooter all of my cities, I hope he goes for it because I'm not really interested in the kind of optimal tactical management that would have Sandover pay for every city of mine he takes as he gradually wipes out my empire. If for some reason the game continues and no one will take my cities, is there any lurker who might want to take over the reigns of the Combine? As long as you forgo diplomacy with Sandover and fight until he eliminates you, I really doubt that any amount of spoilered knowledge will matter.

I've utterly neglected this thread, but I'll try to at least post an image of my empire at its height before I lose any territory. I think I made a fairly solid civ given the awful placement and land I had to work with, but I'm sure I could have been more proactive in trying to win as opposed to simply getting by.

Question, did scooter post the whole "grr we're angry TT is a traitor also maybe you should take my cities or we should end the game" email chain? I haven't been posting any messages because I assumed that he was and also I am lazy, but I've got it if he didn't and someone wants "perspective" for whatever happens next.

Hm, damn shame. I'd offer to fight it out for you, but I'm 100% spoiled, and may not actually have the time to play, anyway. But... well. Anyway, you really got squeezed into a corner. =(

Well, given that i'm taking over soon, i might as well look through your spoiler thread :P

Edit: Ok it looks like i'm walking into a hell hole :P

Hah! You have no idea... :neenernee

I sent you a rather enormous email with all the relevant game data I could think of.

One thing I left out accidentally though- if by some miracle the alliance can defeat Sandover, you will suddenly have an unbelievably large amount of open land to ply your Imperalistic trait in. I think that's Rome's only real hope of winning the game.

Good luck!

So, let me get a few things settled. First, our current economy. We seem to be quite good, research at an average pace. Looks like we're in a representation economy, while i'm not too familiar with that, it works.

Number of cities are excellent. This is hell a lot of cities. I can definitely use them to my advantage.

The inland sea looks suspicious. Maybe there's an island in there, and if that's the case it's definitely going to be good. With that in mind, research was set towards astronomy, both for exploration, galleons for sneak attack, and for astronomies. The middle island (if there is one) will be cream.

Of course, with that in mind, the main thing is the war against Sandover. I can't really do much towards his border cities, and seeing as he has engineering i can't sneak in horses. Any city gotten would be at huge cost, and frankly... i don't want that. So my intention here is to harass, defend, give a threat, while meanwhile building more economy.

Of course, another option would be to mass units on his right border (which i can see into), and then sneak attack the left. I would have to send a spy though... which means building an explorer.

I changed Nova Prospekt into an economy city. It's too far away to build units, and frankly we have enough cities building units.

Other places built more catapaults, Chariots for sentry, an explorer to view his base.

Great scientist went for Nova Prospekt, while Merchant is heading towards Sura something's capital.

So, here are some screenies.

Right front. Safe, easily.

Middle front. This is the danger point. If troops come screaming here i don't know whether i would be able to take them.

Left front. My attack front. If things goes right, i can attack them from here while he least expects it.

Naval Base. Once Moai is completed i'll be building a caravel to scout.

My new econ city. Notice the academy.

I'm thinking of switching the capital here. Reduces maintenence cost, and adds the commerce to the academy.

I'm not happy with the capital at all. Capitals in my opinion should always be economic, not production. However, i would need grocer and bank in here to take advantage of the hindu shrine.

Another base i'm planning to turn into an economy base. So much food, it would be a good specialist economy place.

I'm in desperate need of health. Everywhere is suffering from the health cap, not the happy cap. This is also why i find the inland sea very suspicious. Where's the seafood? I think they're all in a middle island. Of course, if this fails, and i don't find any seafood, i would have wasted a caravel, but oh well.

Well, this is all for the moment. Let's get the game started smile

No demographics screen, sorry, they're in a mess :P

Also, the more i look... why do we need the Collosus? We hardly have water tiles to take advantage of it, and what tiles we do have are oceans... But however i decided to switch to guilds for grocers.

Ok, who am i kidding. For knights. But the grocer will come in handy. I'll need to inspect the middle with a caravel before teching to astronomy.

Where are my lurkers :P It's my first time in a PBEM and frankly, i am very nervous here. However, don't expect any miracles from me though... i've been thinking it over and i have no idea how to get sandover. I specialize in sneak attacks... and there's no where i can do one.
