PBEM 8: E-mail & Technical Issues

@Squareleg: I just read your post after digging up his how-to-do list in the PBEM2 Tech thread [but thanks anyway smile]:
Ruff_Hi Wrote:Steps (might not be 100% accurate but they should be close enough smile) ...
  • start game as per described above in single player mode
  • you will need to get the civs correct, order of play, game options, map type, etc, etc correct
  • enter WB and do your validation checks
  • when you are happy with everything - save as WB save 'RB_PBEM_2'
  • back to main menu
  • multiplayer, pbem, new scenario, select 'RB_PBEM_2'
  • typical 'custom game' style start with some options greyed out
  • everything should be ready to go, but check it anyway
  • name of game is 'RB_PBEM_2'
  • make sure you put in an admin password and that you don't forget it - we might need it (might consider pm'ing it to ainwood and telling her that it is an admin password for this game)
  • start game - it will ask for password - put in something silly - '1111'?
  • save game, email to first player telling them the password
  • and thanks!

First player should play from the save provided using the password provided. They can change the password from the menu (player options if I remember correctly).

So all I have to do after making final edits is start the game with the right options and then email it to WarriorKnight with the password.

as long as the start are balanced in terms of strength, room to expand, quality of terrain, etc i'll be happy smile thanks to tatan for making the map + the lurkers for looking it over!

Yay. Can someone who knows just outline the process of receiving and sending the save and what I need to do special (if anything) the first time I get it. I've never done this before. Perhaps it is real self-explanatory and if so I can probable figure it out, but I'd rather have a guide on what to do so I don't do something wrong.

Until the PBEM tracker is set up, you'll be sending around the save file via emails. When you receive the save, you can open it directly through the browser, but I prefer to download the actual file instead. The save goes into the Civ 4 -> Beyond the Sword -> Saves -> pbem folder. After you finish the turn, a new save file is created in a Saves -> pbem -> (Name of the game) folder and this file is the one that you'll need to send to the next player. For easy reference, you can sort the list (a new file is created every turn) by date modified so you can find the relevant file easily.

Minor clarification: The save you receive - you can put it and open it from wherever you want. I archive them all into a folder in My Documents... The save you send will always be in that same /pbem/game-name folder though.

Glad to have started, can't wait to get my first peek at the map! smile

I guess we can just post in here that turn has been played and sent until we set up this mysterious PBEM tracker?

I've played and sent onto Cjreynol.

I'm not the one surrounded by peaks and desert, so the rest of you each have 1/4 chance now. :neenernee
