Oh, there's lots of useful stuff to say, coordinating wonders and religions, for example. But I agree, it would probably be against the spirit of the rule, as the intention was to limit diplomacy I think, and there's nothing more diplomacy-intensive than having contact from T0.
At any rate, the trick does work for PBEM's, but the recipient has to check the chat log of his chats with the player sending him a message to notice it. There is no automatic notification anywhere.
We should probably check our chat logs.
Let's wait for the save and see if anybody has chatted to us, if not, let's bring this up in the tech thread and get it banned.
I have to run.

T4 has been played and forwarded. Nothing in the chat logs.
I moved the warrior 1E and revealed a silk. After ending turn, the borders expanded and revealed a few more tiles.
Next turn we switch to the rice.
I have to run.

Ok, not much of a change in the demographics. Just confirmation that everyone has a lake in their start, as predicted by novice.
And here is our "empire" after hitting end turn, having switched to the rice as instructed.
Sorted now.

Nice, thanks for playing the turn. I guess we have to wait some turns for the real action. I guess the warrior heads SE-ish the next few turns?

Yeah, did all that - exactly as I did for the other screenshots I posted. I think there is a problem with the Dropbox server - the icon says "connecting..." still and their website doesn't work at the moment. When I right-click, it just doesn't give me the Dropbox options. I tried changing the links pasted into my other posts, hence the failed images.
I've emailed the screenshots to the gmail account so you can see them in the meantime.
Also, I seem to have got the PBEM tracker working - woo hoo!

For info, played a v quick test game. On Prince level, large map size, barb animals showed up at around turn 20, but barb warriors didn't show up until around turn 50.

For completeness, a short analysis on our final opponent, TwinkleToes.
TT plays Hammurabi (Aggressive/Organized) of Zulu (Hunting, Agriculture, [strike]Barracks[/strike] Ikhanda, [strike]Spearman[/strike] Impi)
TT has struggled in some of his games at Realms Beyond but is steadily improving. I think Impis are terrifying, an early Impi rush would certainly ruin our game, but hopefully TT selected them as a deterrent and not to go on a rampage. In other games he has played the peaceful builder and shown ineptitude in war, but for all we know he's decided to rectify that image in this game.
I'm hoping TT's gameplan is focused around the Organized trait and the maintenance reduction of the Ikhanda. That will allow him to city spam. He doesn't have any financial power though, I'm not sure why he picked Aggressive as his second trait. It does speed up his Ikhandas, but other than that it's a sign that he could be contemplating a rush. While I think there are much better game plans to be found, it's a valid plan considering his maintenance powers could allow him to make any conquests productive, at least if the map is somewhat crowded (which, as it turns out, it isn't).
I guess we hope we're not starting near him, and if we are, try to talk sense with him. He was scheduled to have Meatbalz as a teammate, but Meatbalz had to drop out unfortunately. TT has been known to make some rash decisions, so I think he could have benefitted greatly from a teammate. As it is, I think we should try to limit our cooperation with TT to neutralizing him as a threat. He shouldn't be able to keep up in the mid to late game anyway.
I have to run.
