That sounds good, as does early CoL for early artist border pops on the mainland. We have alot of forests to chop in City #2, I'll need to have a think about how to do it.

I played the turn. The worker completed and started farming corn.
I started dotmapping our single planned city spot and got a little carried away...
A thing of beauty indeed.
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing. - George Bernard Shaw
I played the turn, nothing to report.
One change that I did make was renaming our city to Sirius. If anyone has a better idea for city names, please let me know, but I think a celestial naming scheme would be a good theme for this particular game. Astronomy has always been important for seafaring civilizations, and there are some great names available for such a theme. We can use stars, constellations, and perhaps other celestial objects. I searched for "stars and constellation names" and found this site, which provides several names we can use. A sample list:
Holy crap you're telling me the giant smiley face is real! How do you do that?
Also, Jkaen just founded Buddhism last turn. Not a good idea, they could have saved it after the immediate worker techs, it's not like anyone else has mysticism. Again, I'd like to go poly. I'm going to do a write-up of the decisions around the time of our 2nd city...
Okay, here are my thoughts.
We have a decision between all out expansion, or trading that for landing the Oracle-Colossus combo. Decision applicable to both: I'd like to get a pair of workboats out quickly (after our 2nd worker), and sending them in opposite directions. Because we'll be colonising overseas, we're more constrained by logistics and map information. 1) EXPANSION MODE Our tech path is wheel-pottery-sailing. We get our granaries and cottages online asap, and use them to chop and whip out workers, settlers and galleys. I feel we can safely fit Mysticism-Poly before them, as we won't have the workers or citizens to chop the granaries, build cottages, or work them. That gold is a power tile, getting it online will double our tech rate. I'd also get expansive granaries up before we start building galleys. Therefore, tech paths: 1A is wheel-pottery-sailing 1B is myst-poly-wheel-pot-sailing 2) Wonderspam mode Our isolation and monarch difficulty makes going for all-out expansion will hit its limit much sooner than in other games. Therefore, sacrificing a small amount of early expansion for the economy from the Colossus can be quite viable. 2A is myst-poly-priest-wheel-pot 2B is myst-poly-wheel-pot-priest I'll need to do the sims, but 2A feels quite viable, we can start slow-building/pre-chopping the oracle, whip a granary, overflow onto oracle, and finish it off with chops. The biggest problem is we'll be competing with the Industrious team. Not only that, but the fact they can see the religious techs landing early may clue them in. Luckily, they'll be rather production starved for a while, as they start with wheel instead of mining. What do you think? Indicate a direction, and I'll try and have a sim ready.
Corn is improved! Curiously, we're on #1 food, 8, I'm guessing NobleLewwyn (The other expansive civ) is 7. That's odd, does that mean we have non-identical starts? As in, they got a wet wheat instead of a wet corn? Go us I guess, considering we're good for hammers in the early game anyway.
Wow I tried to do the 3360 save but you beat me to it. Good job! I'm going to work now, though, so it's all you.

It goes culture, trade, religion, then strategy layer. I prefer using those lines for things such as dotmaps because signs can get so cluttered quickly. Quote:2A is myst-poly-priest-wheel-pot I like going for this. At least until we see in C&D that the industrious team is also going straight for it. The colossus will be huge on this map, and NobleLewwyn has an advantage but mostly things will come down to tech. Have you been keeping track of their techs so far? |
