If I was Dantski, I would move the unit under the chariot back to my territory, declare war, kill the chariot and move the unit back.
Dantski doesn't have construction, so would need two moves to kill the chariot with the spear.

Might have been better for Spullla to station an archer on that tile.

Ruff_Hi Wrote:Here is a logistic puzzle for you ...- you have 4 warriors that you want to move from A to B as quickly as possble
- you also have a galley (you can start that guy where ever you like)
- A and B are both on a long stretch of coast (straight land on one row, water on the other)
- assuming no roads and no normal movement, how quickly can you move the 4 warriors 9 tiles?
Duh - meant 'and normal movement' ... was trying to rule out stuff like the +1 circumnavigation bonus and movement from promotions. My solution was 5 turns if I want to defend, 6 if I want to attack.
My solution was similar to that posted but slightly different ... I had B riding the galley for 2 full turns then getting off. The Galley then returns 2 tiles, picks up A and starts forward again. The posted solution above have B getting off the Galley and then back on later ... same result. A at tile 9. B at tile 10.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Bigger problem with the 'less galley' solutions is that some "warriors" will walk and will be much more visible than the galley.
[If the Spulla team sees 4 praet walking inside Dantski land after having been declared by half the world, I am pretty sure they will know what it means ]

Agreed, but if they see 2-4 Roman galleys sailing their way, I think they'll figure it out....

Two reasons for the spear:
1) (real reason) They probably only had a spear available.
2) In MP, unless you've got a forest hill or want to devote the hammers for an axe+spear sentry net, which is expensive if you need to watch 6 different hills, your sentry unit is pretty easy to kill by using its counter. So an archer could be killed with a sword, spear with axe, you get the idea... The reason we use spears is because they're the only sentry that forces the enemy units to at least show themselves. With an archer, axe, or even sword the enemy can be clever with movement and often kill a sentry with a pair of horse archers without you seeing the attack. Only a spear forces the enemy to walk an axe up, letting you know what direction the attack came from and how many units were on the tile.
Anyways, since Speaker is on the team there may just be a bit of residual ladder-play mentality leaking through.

While your points are all still valid, Sullla's sentry on the hill is a chariot (which can be killed with a spear)

I don't know if they are aware of this or not. Regardless, their chariot should be safe for now.

If Dantski had a road on the hill 2E of Djenne (2S of the sentry) which is in the fog because of the hill between blocking view, he could kill the sentry units 'from nowhere' (and he probably should)

I think it's appropriate to start taking bets on the outcome of the upcoming conflict?
At first team CoW seems to have the upper hand, but now team Spullla seems to have smelled the smoke on the horizon and entered war production mode. They are outnumbered currently, but have production capability for many more units very quickly, including horse archers.
They will be fighting on two fronts, but they seem to know that this will be the case. The big wild card are the Roman forces which will likely arrive while team Spullla is indisposed elsewhere.
I expect team spullla to hand Jowy and Danski their asses, but then be hit hard by the praetorians when they show up, possibly losing several cities. What do the others present think about this?
