PBEM #1 - Saladin [Spoilers]

OK so here's an attempt at a dot map for the lower half of the world.

The red and brown dots might be settled where the arrows are pointing.

This is definitely the hardest time I've had trying to place cities. Any suggestions are certainly welcome.

OK so what's gone on...

I completed another horse archer at Mecca who will go to Baghdad to act as MP for now. My HA in the south is close to seeing into the barb city so I can find out what's going on there. Mecca started on a worker. Medina completed it's granary and is at max pop for the moment so has stagnated growth to put 2 scientists into play.

Go figure I actually get 3 more bpt this way...roughly. Mecca should produce the first scientist about the time Feudalism is discovered. I'll use him to put an academy in Medina, then the one from Medina to go to Mecca for an acadamy. It's messed up I know yikes

In other news, Dreylin lands music and the artist...MH gets a scientist and Ruff adopts caste system...Finally remembered to check the log

In diplomacy news Dreylin is putting his best foot forward to keep me trading with him. I almost feel bad for it but I've already decided on my path. I don't plan on letting him know until I've atleast completed Feudalism htough. I'm not sure If I should take a short term NAP with him or not though. That might dissuade him from putting together a stronger military than he might otherwise, of course the current proposal from him gives 15 turns notice if I cancel so kind of an alarm bell for him if I go that route at all. Might be best to just forgo it and try and remain peacefull until I'm ready to attack...

So at the 1 AD mark not a lot is different. My Horse archer has confirmed the barb city is still around with only a single warrior inside.

As you can see Dreylin has a city bordering so I'll take the barb city, switch to caste and run an artist for a few turns. If anybody wants to run #'s or something that will tell me when I might get that first ring back that would be great :-). I'm not big on doing that stuff...So that's the plan for now. I don't forsee an immediate need for Slavery so I think it's a fine time to switch.

Taking that barb city would be a pretty aggresive move. Are you ready for war?

It's really impossible to tell without knowing what % the tile is at, how much it changes over a turn, (and probably also, what's in the city), and even then I'm not confident I could do it with any definate precision (but someone better than me probably could smile)

Absolute best case scenario for you I think, would be 6 turns after capture, but that's a very unrealistic model.

Once you reach 10 culture, then the tiles in your first ring start getting pumped with 20 cpt each, so I'd say soon after that.

At this particular time I'm not. I plan to be though. This has given me an idea that I may be able to take it in condition of a small NAP with Dreylin. I'm going to work out some thoughts and post more...

So I had formulated some thoughts on what I wanted to do with Dreylin. I won't be ready for a war soon so I decided to give his NAP offer some thought. Might keep me in his good books and allow me to use the barb city as some leverage. Here is what I wrote to him:

Hey Dreylin,

I wanted to discuss the NAP proposal with you. There is currently a barb city, Zapotec, by your borders (that direction will be my next expansion) and I have a horse archer near by (2 turns away). There is only 1 warrior in that city so I would like to take it and attempt to keep it. The barb city is on what looks to be a natural border divide (though more rightly on land that would be considered yours). What I'm proposing to you is to allow me to take and attempt to keep it and I'll accept your NAP offer (with 2 slight changes) for a minimum 40t duration, with a 10t notice of cancellation. So the NAP could not be cancelled prior to turn 30 and if at some point it is cancelled there is a 10t cooling period prior to any war can break out. As well when I say attempt to keep the barb city Zapotec I am recognizing the fact that your cultural presence is already there and possibly if the city were to flip to you in the future it would be your city to do with what you want. I would like an assurance from you though that you would not actively try and flip it :-).

Let me know your thoughts and if you're happy with this or if you'd like to make any further adjustments.

As for tech trading re: Feudalism I need to get CS for it. I know at this time you have it but 1 of either MH or Soooo is researching it and will be finished the same time I finish Feudalism so I'm still contemplating trading options...Just wanted to keep you up to date there.
