Coca-cola moves onto and begins farming the corn 1E of the sheep.

And in order to contrast with the humorous-tint of Adlain's post, let's play the numbers game; DOUBLE DEMOGRAPHICS SCREENSHOTS!

Turn 24

Turn 25
[Image: Civ4ScreenShot0000-4.jpg]

Hey, top land area went from 37000 to 38000; my guess is, that is the first of the non-creative/holy city civs popping borders [we popped ours at end of turn].

Oh, and while I was playing, I realized that Bronze Working has another important mechanic that I forgot to bother utilizing, which is revealing COPPER [duh]. As it turns out, in yet another reason for getting Iron Working, there is no visible copper anywhere. At all.

Settler finishes, rushes off to city site; revolt to slavery. Pepsi finishes chopping the forest. I forget to take a demo screenshot, but I do notice that we're bottom in score, with 131. Top person is Serdoa [Qin] with 148 points or something. That is all, for now.

Sorry for my inactivity, been busy here with my grandmothers 90th party to sort out for this weekend. I'll try and look at the turn details later and post some thoughts for you later.

I do agree that no cooper is a potential problem!! So IW is a must asap IMHO.

Sigh, looks like Meatbalz has gone AFK. I really hope this game doesn't go the way of PBEM8, although admittedly Meatbalz has been playing the turns pretty quickly so far.

BillyBobJoe: YEEEEEEEE-hah, welcome to BillyBobJoe and JonJoeBilly's News Roundup!

JonJoeBilly: Yessiree, wouldn't'cha know it, Meatbalz was just at a weddin'!

BBJ: And now these turns are movin' faster than a drunk mule off a cliff! So now we got to fill all y'all lurkers out thar in on all the things goin' on in tha great Dutch Empire. And things certainly been happenin'!

JJB: Yeah, done you know it! This game's been hotter than a ballerina playin' poker with her totu on fire!

BBJ: Almost as soon as the save done loaded up, we already got the most wonderful screen poppin' up!

JJB: Alrighty, second city on Turn 27!

BBJ: You betcha', this city is as early as a rabid rooster's call in tha mornin'!

JJB: So wha'did we do wit' this here city? I'll tell you what!

BBJ: He'll tell you what!

JJB: I done got Mott workin' Darujhistan's pigs, while Pepsi farms Mott's corn!

BBJ: Meanwhile, Daru will work the fur for a turn until Coca-cola finishes farmin' tha wheat.

JJB: And furthermore, since there only be but one turn left in Sailin', I done got Mott to put a single shield into a barracks til' it can switch to a lighthouse next turn!

BBJ: You shoot it right, feller! Course, looks like we ain't tha only ones wit' a second city.

BBJ: Take a gander at that there land area! Only one way to get a land area like that. That's right... Witchcraft!

JJB: ...Or a second city.

BBJ: Well I'll be a barrel of spider monkeys with leprosy, I guess you're right.

JJB: Anyway, upon openin' tha' next turn I done discover a mighty fine Vulcan sayin' sometin 'bout a winds and sails or whatever.

BBJ: As if we Dutch needed help sailin'!

JJB: I could sail four-masted frigate alone while blindfolded and deaf!

BBJ: I could sail a schooner 'round tha world usin' only three fingers with fourteen elephants on the main-decks!

JJB: I could sail a two by two plank across the Caspian with my pants on backwards!

BBJ: So, anyway, this meant that we had to change tha build of Mott all tha way back to a lighthouse.

JJB: But that's alright. 'Cause wouldn't ya know it, Coca-cola finished farmin' the wheat, and Daru worked it for a settler in only three turns.

BBJ: But this brought up a mighty fine question: where is this here settler gonna go?

JJB: That darned question was drivin' me more mad than a hog with 8 knives and a fork up his nose, until I sifted through the thread and discovered that Adlain wanted to go to this here dot:

BBJ: This was a very fortunate development indeed, 'cause I done already decided in mah head that this be tha best place, too!

JJB: That there city will be able to work Daru's wheat for a while, and Daru can either take back it's piggies or work the fur.

BBJ: So that there about concurs BillyBobJoe and JonJoeBilly's News Roundup!

JJB: Until we meet agin, here's anotha' demo pic to tide y'all over:

Looking good Tatan thumbsup

Just one or 2 Questions, After Masonary whats the plan??, we are going to be building the GL obviosly, however where is our Tech plan after that??

We have droped to 90% Reserch, i dont want to see that drop too mush this early in the game so i see 2 options,

  1. Get Cottages up asap (8T to Tech), we have afew (5) GL Cottage sites available, 3 for Daru, 2 for Mott and 1 between the pair and 1 is a Rivered GL Site (+1C)
  2. ether beeline CoL (41T as is) or try the CoL Oricale Slingshot (24T inc Building the Oricale & Teching Writing to enable the tech choice) and get some Courthouses up
The cottage plan has the benifit of getting both roads and Granaries as a plesent side affect, i like Cottages and also delays getting the IW the least if we still want to get that asap

the CoL would get us a Religion (+1 Happy) ether at Buddishim if available or at CoL for Confusism along with Courthouses (-50% Maint) but will significantly delay IW alongside other useful Techs like Pottery and Monarchy.

Also - Remember once that Settler is out of Daru, we will grow to size 4 very quickly and if you dont want to whip it at for we will need to ether move a warrior into the city or build a new warrior to place in the city.

What I was thinking, is that we should go hunting next, for some immediate commerce from the fur + ivory [which will provide some happiness for Darujhistan to grow, too], and then go up the wheel+pottery+writing trail for commerce and libraries.

While Oracle-ing CoL would probably be great if it worked, I don't think we can get there before other teams now that we've already committed resources to the Great Lighthouse [and Serdoa, being the only industrious civ, is almost certainly going for the Oracle]. Plus, two early wonders is kind of pushing it, anyway; I think the best strategy on this map will be to get 4-5 established cities on our island quickly and then rex colonies onto the mainland. It may stretch our economy pretty badly, but with the abundant grasslands and gems on the mainland we should be able to turn land advantage into commerce advantage pretty easily.

Right now, we have two workers for two [soon to be three] cities, all of which will grow fairly quickly [esp. Daru]; I think what we really need now is workers. So how's this for a plan: we'll probably have hunting in around 7 turns, give or take a few. So what if Daru builds two workers back-to-back, and then begins a warrior while growing. The last worker should be able to camp the fur pretty much immediately after being built, enabling a 2f+1h+4c tile for Daru to grow onto, speeding the way towards cottages [and beyond!].

Thoughts?

I did consider Hunting also. so: Hunting --> Wheel --> Pottery --> Writing, yes no problem there but my 2 concerns are Religion and IW - i do like to have some form of religion founded in my lands normaly, and yet i feel IW will be of great benifit to us on that island to our south. Is there some way we can squeeze these in the near future??

Lets make sure we learn from other games and not overstrech too much. Maintanance cost will be a killer on that island and i would like to not have nuked our econamy before we even step foot on there.

Sounds Good thumbsup maybe we could get the new city (once built) to start work on a Galley to enable us to look around the other island.

(i seem to be going on like a broken record about that island duh)

With regards to IW: well, maybe after we get pottery and/or writing, but I think we need commerce a lot more than anything else right now; Iron Working well only be needed as we start settling the mainland. Case in point:

The highest player has almost 50% more commerce than us. frown Of course, that isn't as important in the early game as food and production, but... I think IW should wait until after writing.

With regards to religion: well, I don't think it is nearly as much a priority as expansion and teching. Remember, we are charismatic, which means we already have +1smile and will get another one from building monuments, which one doesn't tend to want to build when using religion as a border-popper. I am not entirely to the idea; but only Buddhism has been founded so far, so there should be plenty of opportunities, and again: I think expansion [and teching] is a bigger priority.

EDIT: Actually, re-reading your post, did you mean to talk about what to go AFTER writing? Because in that case, I have no idea; Iron Working is a strong candidate, though; or maybe Code of Laws, if Confusion is still there.

I don't think that maintenance costs will be quite so bad as you think, for a number of reasons:

  1. No vassal states means no colonial maintenance
  2. The difficulty is noble
  3. We're organized

Plus, just look at this land:

Now, on to the actual turn report:

...Uh, basically nothing happened. Coca-cola finished farming the northern wheat, and went to farm the southern wheat [since I plan to loan off the northern wheat to the third city].
