You could maybe consider using the base name of the unit as well? Right now, if I renamed all my units to "Killer" regardless of what type, only "Killer" would show up in the log.

You could also do some dastardly stuff, like renaming your knights to cuirassiers (or vice versa). I like Charriu's suggestion better though.

I have fond memories of unit renaming during the FFH PB when Mardoc, Ellimist and I were using a captured Giant Spider to pick off Adepts and the occasional Mage while concealing what we were doing by renaming it to "Wolfrider"
