Got it. But the result if I try to load the save is that I get the message "The save game... [too much to read in .3 seconds]" and then it crashes.

This is what I expected to be honest. I didn't think you could load a multiplayer game after modifying assets at all, regardless of the "lock modified assets" checkbox which says it's for single player only.

Further tests.

Load 4000bc save with modified dll: crash
Create new pbem game, play a turn, swap to modified dll, load second player's turn, no crash (but also no "no barb" option enabled)
Single player: no crash, no "no barb" option enabled

I am an idiot and set GAMEOPTION_NO_BARBARIANS to false in the code. Check your email again in two minutes.

Does the PBEM11 game actually have "Lock Modified Assets" on? you didn't say. If it doesn't, then the save _should_ be loadable with a new DLL.

Lock modified assets is not checked. (I didn't think it showed up under the settings, but it does - and it's not there.)

The new DLL still crashes it.

Also, google searches reveal that the full message is "The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed."

Maybe Ruff would atone for his slip by volunteering to take the save on every round with the admin password and delete any barbs that spawn on the map. :neenernee

Personaly i see no big issues with barbs being on or off (aslong as we dont have raging barbs that is tongue) Atleast we know now (T7 or 8 i think we are on) so there is more than ample time to adjust any gameplay aspets to allow for them smile

It's really weird that no one understands this. I mean, how was it possible to use this technique in PB1, if it isn't here?

Pitboss vs PBEM. The Pitboss host program doesn't check whether assets have been modified. The Civ executable for PBEM does, apparently even if "lock modified assets" is not on.
