[SPOILERS] - GES & TT, Huayna Capac of the Zulu

Put the chop into a settler and finished the road on the mine.

I think I will probably road the grassland with both workers next turn. But after that, any suggestions from DLs?

I could keep building the warrior and grow to size 3, but I should only do that if I am improving a third tile to work. Which one? A farm to grow faster? A river cottage (a little early right?)? Mine a grassland hill (why not just slave off cottages?)?

Or I could use both workers to chop 2 tiles and get the settler out in 3-4 turns while also continuing on the warrior/growth during the interim.

Roaded the tile so the gems are connected. If I am growing, I still need to choose the next tile to improve. Seems my dedlurkers are asleep.

There was only one tile to defog with the scout and I debated to move back north, but the gap in the forest intrigued me and I found THREE resources:

Looking for some suggestions on the use of my workers from TT and Sciz.

Quote:Thanks GES, even the absence of information is information. smile Settling on the stone isn't looking as good anymore, with no food in range.

We will start revealing a few tiles around the marble next turn, as our second warrior and returned scout converge on the area. I'll send you a picture when we do!

Quote:M7,

Scratch that about no food in range. Hit the resource motherlode this turn, and honestly, I almost didn't move there, with only one tile to defog. But the lack of a forest made me curious, and my curiosity turned out to be correct.

GES

Quote:Oh wow!

That might be a really strong early city to grab; it has amazing production at size 1-3.

We're committed to Hinduism at this point, but if you can get a settler out quickly you might want to settle there, research Myst/Masonry, and pump out Stonehenge really quick. But even if neither of us takes advantage of it for the stone it's a great site to know about.

So what are you building, a Settler or a Warrior (screenies conflict)?

If you are still growing, pottery will be in soon so getting a cottage up may be worthwhile.

However, it won't be as helpful to you getting out settlers/workers/units as mining one of your many hill tiles.

Where are you planning to settle city 2? If its by the Copper/Pigs/Fish/Stone then it may be worth putting a road down in the forest NE of capital to hook up to the river. You can then use that river to hook up the trade between the two cities and save you building a majorly long road straight away.

just some random thoughts, I am reading it all the time (if not commenting much!)

Building a warrior. The settler was left over from the chop the previous turn.

Edit: Aren't early mines a sucker's build, since you should be whipping cottages?

hi

me: What's up
You recommended settling on the stone, but I am not sure I want to waste the whale tile, which will be 3/1/3 with lighthouse/workboat
Otherwise that would be the obvious play

Mardoc: hm
I wouldn't worry about that to be honest, it's just so far out (optics)
getting a fast start is probably much more important
Sent at 2:53 PM on Saturday

me: You know, that shows how little I know
Didn't know I needed to wait for optics
There lots of little details like that that I don't know
Because I've spent way more time reading about the game than actually playing it

Mardoc: hehe smile
yeah, whales are silly like that
Sent at 2:55 PM on Saturday

me: You are probably right then, although I need to dotmap the whole area to make sure it isn't going to futz up other cities

Mardoc: yes, that is a reasonable consideration
oddly, long term that city on the stone would just be an insane cottage city
Sent at 2:57 PM on Saturday

me: Maybe it is just me, but this really nice land overall. Tons of resources, and tons of rivers, with great production sites too.

Mardoc: yup, it's pretty awesome
lots of grassland rivers = nice for us I'd say
Sent at 3:00 PM on Saturday

me: Agreed. I am wondering if I shouldn't go for The Great Lighthouse, since marble and stone don't effect its build speed. Everyone seems to act like that Wonder is crazy nice in multiplayer. While the majority of my early cities would be landlocked, there are a million coastal cities available out on the rails.

Mardoc: very good point
(and if you also get colossus, that would be sick)
but, I think there is no hurry

me: Yeah, something I hadn't really considered. Worth some thought maybe. I am going to heed your advice in getting some early warriors for garrison duty.

Mardoc: oh, one thing about GLH, we'll have to see how high maintenance costs are
what with it being toroidal they might be steep

me: Oh yeah, it is toroidal.
And there are no overseas trade routes this game.

Mardoc: oh yeah, good point

me: That said, the capitols are pretty spread.
I wonder if anyone will pillage any of the railroads

Mardoc: me too

me: I doesn't seem like a good idea to me, because if you plant your cities, it is really only you that can use them, but if you decide that you have pushed your settling as far as you plan in a direction, you might cut them off a tile outside your borders in a war situation.

Mardoc: yeah
probably, you wait until you think you have impending war

me: Exactly

It depends how much whipping you plan to do soon and from what pop.

If you keep whipping down to 2 pop, I imagine you will keep working the two current tiles so a cottage will barely mature in so little time. Mines may give you that extra quick hammer boost to get things built/whipped quicker.

I imagine farming a river grassland would be the same principle, as you get extra surplus hammer for settlers & workers, plus extra food for growth.

The benefits probably aren't that massive, but these are probably the best options.

For not 'wasting' worker turns you could probably get the workers both farming the tile they are stood on which would then be complete/near completion when growth arrives?

No screenshots this turn as nothing has been revealed. I might post the demos later when I get a second.

I decided to farm the tile the workers were already on. It will be done in exactly two turns for when I grow. I don't really like this move that much. Its only advantage over working the 2/1/0 grassland forests when building settlers or workers is that it will be 3/0/1 for that one extra river commerce. But honestly, I just couldn't come up with anything better to do. My current plan is to grow the city to size 4 and whip between 2-4 so that I always work the corn and gem mines. I might eventually go between 3-5 so that I can get at least one cottage up for financial. Given all the rivers, I should try to leverage Financial cottages to an early tech lead. My plan is to whip out a grainary after pottery finishes, put the overflow on the settler, finish building a warrior, and put two chops into the settler. Given the toroidal setting, I will need to get cottages up to support much expansion beyond the third city I figure.

I got a screen of M7's scouting in the west of the their island, and I will post that. We should have the entire starting mass scouted for a full dotmap by the time my settler arrives. I don't see any need for a dotmap until I have that information or a settler arrives, whichever happens first.

I finished Pottery. I thought long and hard, considering Animal Husbandry, a run at Judaism, or a coastal city run at Great Lighthouse, but settled on Writing. Probably AH --> Masonry next.

With the farm finished, I will need to put those Sobotka's to a new task next turn:

Since I have almost no hammers and no more developed tiles to work, I am going to straight build the Settler before my chop expires (I have no idea how long it takes for hammers to deteriorate on quick on a unit). I will put the chops from the two current workers onto a granary instead, and then whip out the worker while growing onto a couple of cottages at size 5:

Long time from last messages so I decided to send you a one. Since last time I've found Tatan's and Luddite's islands while focusing mainly on internal affairs. I think Tatan is E and Luddite B that makes Amelia C.

Quote:plako,

I met Amelia since we last talked, but have exchanged no more than 2-3 sentences back and forth.

I've been focusing on getting my home island unfogged for dot-mapping. Not much going on overall.

I don't really have a set goal at the moment other than safe expansion.
