I don't think you need mind control but the psi attacks get ridiculous later. However, in my experience, your armor is nearly immune to anything that's not a sonic cannon so while having 1/2 your squad permanently panicked/MCed, its actually hard for MCed XCOM agents to kill other XCOM agents(unless you equip everyone with sonic pulsers).

I like the defensive base layout option, but not improved starting base. This is what we used for the first game, and I think it is reasonable -- no reason but stupidity to have our first base designed so poorly. (Background muttering about government bureaucracy and low-cost bidders.)

I also like improved dye grenade, so it can be useful. There are situations where a dye grenade is quite handy....

Agree on not improving Gauss, or bothering to research it. We will have to manage as best we can, and ASM is right that lots of gas cannons works fairly well early on.

MC...I think it should be enabled. Whether we choose to use it can always be debated later, but at least we should have the option of building the labs for screening troops.

Ok it looks like the consensus is: rearranged initial base, improved dye grenade (since the things don't seem to be working as intended), no other improved weapons.

So, did we have a volunteer to maintain the recruit/death list?
