Commodore, zero mapmaking experience, but I'd love to be included in your team of lurkers checking for balance. Never a bad time to start learning about how maps are balanced from more of an inside perspective...
You can get a look at a t-bone by looking up the bulls ass but I'd rather take the butcher's word for it.

It's settled then!
No problem regarding your computer. I can play some turns here and there.
Should we ask for a new forum? It would be nice to start discussing things already.

I wouldn't do that, it tends to jinx the organisation process.
I have to run.

No talking (but can still open borders, trade, etc like pbem18) I'm against this one, might be due to my suspicius nature, but since theres no way to actually police it then
Snake pick
Snake pick is run AFTER we get to see screenshots of our starting positions just to be clear ... Snake pick is when player 1 chooses leader OR civ first, player 2 second etc. down to the last on the list, which then have back-to-back chooses for both, working the way back to player 1. right?
Spy units banned disargee ... would kill the chances of someone being able to pull off a spy-supported mounted charge (don't know how often thats possible, but nonetheless)
No mod Agreed
Totally up in the air
Other bans (I'd be fine with none, personally)
Barbs Agreed - could easily kill off one of the players in terms of putting them so far back that they can't rebuild in time
Leader/civ bans e.g. no FIN/Inca/India/Surya no problems
Difficulty level (maybe try a high difficulty for a change?) Monarch or Emperor i believe
Speed (Quick/Normal) I'd prefer Normal, since i'm most used to playing Epic, so meeting halfway
...

No trading stuff (cities, money, units) to uninvolved party after you've lost the game and the enemy is just warping up[/COLOR]

You cannot police many of things RB does on the honor system. You just have to trust your opponents.

What is that?

down the cultural defenses with a spy and throw enough mounted at the city of cause
then again ... i honestly admit i don't know if that'll work as well in MP as it can do in SP

It works perfectly well. If anything, the reason we tend to ban spies is because they make sentry nets a bit too easy. Put one on a hill in neutral territory and its almost unremovable, unlike visible sentries.
Also, I'll be interested in ded-lurking Yuri. We can talk about the terrible music we listened to as a teenager!

The other problem with spies is that espionage missions are totally unbalanced in multiplayer. We could ban only the worst ones (civic changes, for example), but I think an only passive espionage setting is better.
About the no-talking rule:
I think PBEM 18 is one of the most fun in the forum. It has a lot more action than the average game and that's good. A case for always war could be made, because there's ways of boycotting certain players even in a can't talk setting, but that's not a big deal.
You don't need to worry about rule breaking, Sian. The crowd here is very nice. Hell, we have spoiler threads for the games (and if you want to cheat on a PBEM game, that's very easy too). The whole spirit of the community is based on no cheating, so we are safe.
About leader picks:
I like the PBEM 18 setting of lurkers/map maker making the picks, because we saw some unusual combinations. Since you prefer a snake pick setting, I'd prefer that we ban some leaders/civs, just for the sake of diversity.
