Imperium Five - The Ruins of Tau Cygni is now open. Enjoy! :D
All done. Maybe I can squeeze in that lazy man's epic game now... I'm finding myself occasionally thinking about playing civ again.... not that I'm thinking of quitting moo....

Wow, not even a light snack for the Maniac.

Huge/Impossible?! Yikes. I usually avoid huge maps.
1) They give me the "too many cities" feeling from civ. Think Huge/Emperor/Domination/Original Release (where huge maps were larger than they were after a patch or 2) 2) Trying to remember which 13 diffrent planets my colony ships are simultaneously headed gives me brain damage. 3) The tech pace drives me close to the edge. I'm used to building competitive fleets with IC/npg and Fusion/AMB,You usually aren't done expanding before those weapons go obsolete on huge. It makes for a diffrent mindset for sure. I must say, though, that my last game onasmall map finished all the trees (my first Impossible final war win with non Psilons) thanks mainly to a completely bombless tree, no luck stealing one, and no luck getting a bomb from Orion either. Still, that game went over 400 turns. The Psilons would probably be researching Advanced cpu tech 30 by then on a Huge map I suspect that your preference for these size of maps is why you build so many bases. Bases don't go obsolete. I do build lots of bases ordinarily on the reachable lines, but not as fast and as many as you do. Anyway, time to head out. And... I'll probably play Imp 6 even so . -Maniac

I was in a hurry to get to work this morning and forgot to respond to the point I was originally going to respond to before I decided to make the comments I actually posted which was about the not even a light snack for me thing .
I probably should have made it a variant, but being the first small map we played, and having allready variantized Imperium 2, I decided to play it straight up. Originally I thought since I play mostly small maps maybe somone would learn something from my play, though I'm sure they'll learn more from you, Zed, and Selentine and maybe some others. But then things didn't go the way I was expecting and.... well, I got lead astray :P I suspect some people wont play this one, but I really like how you are catering to both the old and new players with your games mix right now. Both Impossible Imperia for the vets and lower difficulty for the newbs overlaping is a good strategy to intrest and improve new players. Anyway I've prattled on long enough. - Maniac Edit: Dang it, I still forgot something. I meant to guess we'd get the lizards in the first Huge map Imperia. Am I right ?_?

Imperium six? Huge/impossible? Good thing I'll have a business trip planned during that period. I'll need all the time I can get for something like that.
On average, everybody thinks they are above average.
Hi all,
Minor spoilers follow... I'll take an incomplete on this. In a fairly brief session I played up to to 2372 and saved the Imperium 5 game with Council vote pending, with strong expectation that I could win diplomatically if I wished to (that's the spoiler). I wanted some time to ponder whether I wanted to take the diplo or play on, so the next day started another game and managed to save it over the 2372 savegame. ![]() It wasn't even one of those immediate "D'oh!" moments, it took hours to realise anything was wrong. My new resolution is to label Imperium games "5555-2372" instead of "IMP5-2372", which got lost among the "IMP4-2412" etc I still have laying around. Bah humbug. Cheers (kind of), Factoid.
Sorry about that. One of the pitfalls of dealing with an old game, which does have some primitive elements to it, like the six save slot thing.
Maybe when you label the games, don't add the date? I keep two slots for my "active" game, and four slots for everything else, and I just resave over the two in alternating fashion. Then EVEN IF I SCREW UP AND SAVE OVER ONE OF THEM, the other exists for a backup and I'd only have to replay a fairly small portion of the game. Since you think you were in a winning position, I hope you consider you got your money's worth out of this event anyway. B) - Sirian

Hi Sirian,
I was just feeling grumpy, mainly because I know much better than to do this sort of stupid thing. No need to apologise on behalf of the game. Normally I only play one game at a time (so save7 can retrieve most situations) and I wouldn't care greatly if I messed up a game anyway. I need to be more disciplined for these Imperium games. Yes, I do feel I am getting my money's worth out of the Imperium games, going back to Average felt... relaxed, I was much more in control than I used to be, not that I find all Average games winnable. I played a Silicoid/average/small game for Imp5 practice and between a "no planet" and Orion there was one planet to colonise then a 7 parsec gap to any other coloniseable systems, which were settled by 2310 or so anyway. Not bad for a small galaxy, though I'm sure people have seen worse!Cheers, Factoid. |
