Return of the Horde: Temujin of Rome

And we found Iron:

One of our next cities has to go around here somewhere. The archer will head to that hill next to find the best nearby site. Border expansion revealed a crab in the ocean which should help.

A free forest chop this early? Yes please. Only problem is that it forces me to change the micro plan, something which I would rather not do. lol Oh well.

After simming some more, the forest growth equals another worker on t101. So workers get built on t90, t93, t95 and t101. We can get a 6th worker on t101 if we are in bureaucracy by t100, which I think is a decent possibility (otherwise we have to wait until the turn after). Settlers are built on t99 and t100. We do have to have the scouting archer back to both cities on t97-98 to avoid unhappiness, but that may not be a bad thing (we need something to defend against enemy scouts blocking tiles, if that happens).

Bit of an update:

As I posted in the strategy thread, I found a sunrise scout. Unfortunately he was able to block me and I couldn't do the same to him. It's still quite a bit of a distance to my capital (since there's a lake in the way) so I continued scouting to the south for now. (anyone have any advice on whether I should go back or not?)

Otherwise not much happening domestically. I did find an error in the micro plan which I'll have to fix at some point (in sims, game automatically makes 2nd city have religion and so a plains hill I can't improve needs to be changed somewhere). Whipped my 2nd worker in Kararomum this turn, overflow finishing a work boat for the fish while 2nd city netted a fish and starts a worker next turn.

Food is high, expect that to continue with sheep online next turn and another fish the turn after. Lot's of whipping is going to keep the rest of the stats low, but decent food with a low pop is a good sign.

Best two spots I can find for city 3 & 4 so far are as follows:

Sheep, Crab, Silk, can build workboat for capital's crab but most importantly IRON! Position has yet to be decided since there's still some fog around here but with that Iron there this has to be a priority.

Found a fish up here, so with the sheep that means we can work copper + 4 hills. (horse goes to a Indian city) Bit of a defensive nightmare with all the hills though, but seems to be the 2nd best site.

Turns out the error didn't make much of a difference after all, so I'll just post the current version.

Not really sure what to be doing after the first two settlers yet, perhaps some units/infrastructure while the new cities chop theirs out? Still need a ton of workers to improve everything though, and settlers to obviously expand. huh

After we get a ETA for CS I'll try and figure out where to go next.

Major bit of news:

You can see sunrise's border in the fog 3SW of my scout, and they're actually fairly close. Preats may not be completely useless after all.

I dunno how I'd feel about rushing with them though, on one hand it would be better to attack England sooner rather than later when they have Redcoats. On the other we're talking about attacking the dream team here (plus attacking in a FFA game is usually a losing proposition anyway, although given our proximity it's probably inevitable we'll have a few battles anyway).

1st in food! dance Still only have 2 workers though (although I'll get my 3rd next turn).

So we have CS. jive Micro plan updated to reflect Bureaucracy changes, although after t100 it becomes less clear what the obvious thing to do with workers are (and as such I may not bother with a micro plan).

Anyway, both settlers come out on t100 and I could use some input with regards to exact location.

Need a city near the Iron for obvious reasons. The problem is where to settle exactly. The current tile's problem is that it has no food in the first ring, meaning that we need to get some culture in there somehow. 1W is the only spot with both food and iron but has a hill right next to it which won't be great defensively. Is there a better way I'm forgetting to pop borders then chopping a monument?

I know the copper spot up north is probably better, but it isn't that close nor is it a backline location, so at least until we get iron secured I'd like to go for a safer spot and this seems to be the only decent option. 1E is better long term, but then we have the same problem of no food in the first ring.

In other things, since the Superstars went for Music first, I'm thinking about building a explorer in Kararomum next and using it to scout out sunrise. Since we're neighbors it wouldn't hurt to scout a bit or at least get some prior warning about a invading stack/artist bomb city.

Anyone have a good idea what should be chopped in new cities? Normally I'd say infrastructure (in this case a forge) but given the amount of tiles that need to be improved it wouldn't be terrible to chop workers instead.

Workers should come from existing cities. A new city is already at the slowest point of its growth curve, don't delay it there longer by building food-consuming workers. Granary is always the first chop in an ancient start. Forge is usually the second choice (and would be in medieval of course), with lighthouse and library also common choices.

Well, you have an oasis basically to start with, right? Free lighthouse means the lake is 3/0/2. IF commerce THEN library ELSE monument.

Work lake, run culture slider for two turns (preferably when both new cities are planted) would also get those borders popped.
