Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

I'd be for dropping the melee/ranged classification altogether. What's the point of it?

There are plenty of restrictions already in place. How about replacing that with a restriction on total number of weapons allowed to be "owned" at any one time, and let players sort out how many will be melee vs how many will be ranged, including allowing throwing to be both.

Since most ranged weapons get damage bonus off dex and most melee get bonus off str, splitting your points to help both will weaken each.

Then players will not be pigeonholed into being one-trick-ponies. My two bits.

By the way, I'm NOT going to do one of these on a "catch as catch can" basis. That's French for "soloing most of the time". I might try it as part of a dedicated team, though.

That is being considered. This was actually one of the last rule I put in for the sake of making meleer feel more balanced, even though I am not a big fan on "all builds are, or should be equal".

The main focus of this is to nerf the throwers since they are dex builds and would have max block, naturally. This might not be a big concern since the BNs are much nerf'd to begin with. And definitely pure evil when Slowed by a Zon...

Will give the people another week before rallying for new BN starts....

I would play but...

I want to do a Paladin. A Holy Fire Paladin. With Resist Fire for boss battles. I have seen the numbers. Holy fire, at level 20, back by a synergy, is pathetic.

His curse would be painful burning feminine itch. And jock itch. It burns! It burns!

Use this sub thread to find BN partners.

I am available after 10 pm PST on most nights except on my days off, Monday and Tuesday. Mondays and Tuesdays are wide open for gaming atm, except Tuesday's ET team game which usually run from 5:30 to 8:30 PST.

It seems that the ET Team has lost itself in Atma's Tavern.

Would a 'Variant Night' on Tuesdays be a substitute? For those who want to try the BN style, it would provide a better chance of meeting partners for pick-up games and remove the guilt of those who cannot always make the time-slot for a specific team.

Please see above thread, Beyond Naked Paladin, and consider a Vengeance work around.

Even if you only max HFire and Resist Fire that would be an average of 45 points of damage per pulse, and achievable by the end of Normal diff. Then we have negative resists to consider in NM and Hell... And that only hurts from one player.

If you use Vengeance and max 3 resists for damage and up to lvl 10 Holy Fire for curse you will be doing ~20 fire dmg per pulse already

KingOfPain Wrote:That's ok with me. I see this variant as a "long" term project, not something I would rush anyway. A couple of hours here and there would work just fine. Also, I might have more than one BN going if there are enough interested parties.
Anyone else want to get in on this team before I pick a class?

Had the good luck to run into (ouch, excuse me lol ) Bam Bam the other night. His necro and I (Shardik_BND Werebear) messed about the Catacombs of Act I until we had to respond to spousal summonses.

Are we allowed to play solo in order to "catch up?" I see that BN requires at least one partner. Hmm. I am gonna solo to catch up to act II anyway, since I look to be curtailing D2 activity in general to just Rogue Revival rogue and this Beyond Naked Druid.

Anyway, my intention is to become an Axe wielder. Such speed of attack as is possible and available seems to me most likely to come from an Axe, though from a pure stats management perspective, I might oughta take a good hard look at blunts. Cant afford the Dex for Polearms, sad to say. Slow attack speed may merely be my cross to bear. wink

Max Lycanthropy. Probably Max WereBear. Shockwave for Crowd control, although I am not sure Max is required. And there, I run into a puzzle. One of each wolf and a bear, of course, per the guidelines, and what is a druid without a menagerie anyway?

HoW, IIRC, will try to melee my hostiled partners, or has anyone tested this in PvP? Am not keen to try the Spirit of Barbs, as lack of equipment makes bleeding tankage rather nonsensical in Frenzytaur land.

Question for the Gallery:

Pros and cons in re max Ravens to optimize the Blinding and boost the Curse aspect?
I yearn to invest in Cyclone Armor to survive Hell's Elemental Archers in various acts. Reduced resistances I have experienced with a few other chars. Or, does that skill represent points wasted in the team context?

Anyway, there you have it, a fuzzy bear who will seek a broken belt to load his honey jars in. thumbsup

Later.

I have not have too much gaming time of late. I mostly missed out on the Guild Wars weekend, and I hardly play Diablo anymore except on Tuesdays. (Actually, I haven't felt the urge to play Diablo much anymore, execpt BNs on Tuesdays)

This (BN) has been most fun since Diablo 2.

ShadowBNA and MissGuided grabbed the Trav WP yesterday - I have never felt Norm Diff (and even NM most of the time) was any form of a challenge other than an exp grind, but I did feel a sense of joyish accomplishment knowing we are closing in on Meph.

ShadowBNA and MissGuided paired up since birth with the occasional BNs joining in their adventures. Both of us being range attackers without much stopping power (NOTE) to really brings out the best of what RB coop is about. I have seen nothing like this since CD. Seeing us advancing and retreating in union, using terrain (yes, terrain. rare, eh?) to funnel/trap/evade monsters, and constantly readjusting our positions so that we are out of each others LoF, even down to target picking, all without a word of communication brings tears of joy to my eyes. (ok, exaggerated on the tear part ;p ).

This doesn't get better. This is so much like playing CD with the old gang [Image: thumbsup.gif]

PS: For anyone who wants to join up or catch up, I would accept lvling to around lvl 20-21 for beginning of Act3, and 23-4 for Trav, without being in the company of BN(s) because we are still in the early stage of developement. This practice, of course, is not encouraged and will not be acceptable later on.

(NOTE: MissGuided would probably NOT pump her Decoy except to make it durable enough to give us a second or two if we have to blow. A tanking decoy would alter the dynamics of this team)

Have I languished too long to catch up?

Well, my BNZ is almost ready for the big leagues now. I suppose I should refrain from pumping Decoy as well in that instance? Guess I could pump guided instead for a start, and pump decoy later as needed.

HaplessBNS was born in during Shardik's hibernation. I have never really played any sorceresses, except for one melee sorceress back in v1.09. Lack of skill on the driver's part has made Hapless more an even more than usually dangerous companion, but she has been interesting. lol

She, along with QuietRiot and Zed's Bowazon, managed to get the Flayer WP and collect some brains last night.
