Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Welcome

This is nice! I hope this forum, when its design is finished, will load a bit faster than the old N54 one with all the huge GFX did. The area I'm living in is still cut off from moderm broadband technology, and from flatrates as well. So I'm on slow, expensive dial-up. frown

Is there a way to configure the boards so that the threaded view displays the body of all messages, as N54 was able to do? Again because of my dial-up connection, I usually load all threads I plan to read and then go offline before I do so. This forum would either force me to read a thread in linear view, or to open one window per post, which is quite annoying.

Does anybody know if a software exists that could download the contents of Invision boards and let the user browse through it and reply offline, as it's possible with good old usenet?

Thank you so very much for doing this for lil' old us Bolty. Thanks for all the work you guys (Griselda, KoP and Charis) have done over the years for the RB site, and the work you did looking into finding us a new forum. And finally, thanks to Sirian for sponsoring most of the greatest and most memorable games I've played over the last few years.

Wow, I feel like I just got an Oscar  . Seriously guys, thanks for all your hard work.

Looks nice overall, but there seems to be alot of deadspace at the top for me (between the QOTM and the control bar). Is anyone else seeing this?

Oh kind beloved benevolent moderator Griselda...

Might we have descriptive handles under our name? Somehow? Like in a contest? A secondary handle for the regulars.

But I ask for a catch... We can't make our own titles. Might be fun for the whole group to "tag" somebody.

Nice new forumses, yes preciousssss!

Good to see some of the crew that hasn't been able to get to N54 (like Doc!wink. Thanks go to Bolty for being kind enough to host this.

Just for fun, I put in tonight's Slackers game on the calendar - I wish it had the capability to repeat events! I suspect it will be tedious to try to post the game every week.

Re: Doc's idea about descriptive handles under our name - great idea! Can we volunteer Doc to be the first victim, er, I mean "lucky contestant?"
;-)

You can't, unfortunately. The threaded hack isn't even supported by invision board, but was made by a user. It's far from perfect, but it's what's available.

I guess the only way to do it might be to download the first message in threaded mode so you can see the tree, then download the original thread so you have the message bodies. That does sound like a lot of work, though. frown

It looks fine in Mozilla, but I do notice that in IE. I'll see if I can do some better HTML for that area.

I'd like to put in a request on behalf of the visually challenged (including myself):

Can we get a clear constrast in color between visited and unvisited links? I'm not doing so well determining which replies I've read before.

Hmm. I also notice that it is difficult (for me) to see highlighted text. The difference between dark blue and dark blue isn't catching my eye very well.

Also, in general, may I request descriptive reply titles from community posters? The way folks did it at N54 was helpful to me. A dozen replies all labeled "RE: This Topic" contributes to my confusion, like navigating streets that are all named the same or nearly so. This may not be applicable so much to this topic, but it will matter when discussions begin to bloom.

I'm not sure if you can change the color of visited links. I will look into it, though. My suspicion is that you have to use the board's default "mark read" or unread thingy, but unfortunately it marks everything as read after a certain period of time or if you close your browser. It's annoying, but I have sort of gotten used to it at the Lounge.

If we could change the visited link color, that would solve the problem.

I hadn't even noticed the highlighted text thing, since I use XP's grey color scheme. I guess I could change the post-box background, but I seem to remember there was a reason why it was changed to blue. I will have to look into that (old thread at the Lounge) so at least I know what I'm breaking if I switch it.

Does anybody find the legth of the clickable smilies box annoyingly long at the moment? I can change it to four smilies per row (but that would make the post box narrower), or I could make some of the smilies non-clickable (so you'd have to click "show all" and enter the code for the smiley to get some of them). I'll probably have to do one of the two at some point if I add any more smilies.

Yes, I suspect it would get annoying to add weekly events. However, it could be used to add something that's out of the ordinary, for example "no slackers this week due to whatever". It might also end up being useful for players who have to miss a week, or to update the team as far as levels or quests. Or, the forum might turn out to be easier after all.
