[SPOILER] Waterbat spends '104 Days of Summer Vacation'

well, after founding his new city, when 4th ring popped for him (250 culture), he gained all 14 tiles. (the same 14 i would gain if my borders popped that far)

That's why i figured that his 3x3 city box that he founded before could not have been in overlapping position. so looking for a spot like that - that also would gain 5 on a BFC pop (5 culture)

i just wasted a bunch of time playing with gimp:

spoiler for hugeness:

Nice map! That must've taken forever.

Have you considered Flying Camera? It keeps the camera from tilting, which makes these maps look like they're flat and not crazily warping everywhere. Plus, the tile grids actually line up! It's either Ctrl-F or Ctrl-Alt-F, can't remember. Or is it Alt-F?

Yes, its Alt-F - thank you very much!

muhahahah i did a lot of "Perspective shaping" in gimp to make them appear less warped and fit together better smile

Anyway - that is just 4 of the civs - whom i assume are arranged like this:

Code:
\            \                \
-  Xenon   -   SuperJm   -  TheArchDuke  -
        \            \                \
-  Catwalk -   Waterbat  -  Azza             -
        \            \                \

Also the actual map split is in the center of that - we appear to be on the top half of the map, but since i explored "up" i figured we were on the south...er "bottom" half.

new turn in t32:

I figured out the land points discrepancy. It appears to be a start-of-turn operation by the game scoring mechanism. Because of how I take Demos (before my turn ends, or superjm's or TAD's), it can appear as though the points are coming up to 2 turns to early.

demos:

total soliders went up 3.
max soldiers went up to 29 to match me who also gained 1 to get to 29. We know that superjm would have lost 1. so that leaves a net gain of 3? it had to be TAD getting the points - either though the tech he got this turn or units.

rival land stayed the same.

rival pop average stayed the same, but superjm whipped beijing for 2-pop! how's that work?! he's now got 2 size 2 cities, so he lost 42,000. Also Xenon grew to size 5. so that's 42000 used up. ok that was easy smile

notice what i did up there?? i used myself in the rival soldier count adjustment. So insetad of offsetting superjm's whip, we have a gain of 4000 solider points for rivals this turn, not 3. TAD had to get at least 2000 this turn from something.

catwalk researched something in 3t.

you know im giving TAD pottery and catwalk mysticism and thinking that TAD also buit a warrior or 2 depending on where that second city sits. 3 hammers at it with 1 overflow would be perfect for a 3t warrior - also his cap has been growing, so that makes sense that it could have been on warrior too.

sigh - cant give him pottery as doesnt agree with GNP analysis

one thing GNP does do - it tells me 2-3 people have hunting - so im giving it to Catwalk - that means him and Azza have researched it. Most likely he knows Azza is his neighbor to the west - so he'll want to get some spears. As for TAD - maybe he went sailing?! Yep GNP verifies 1 person has sailing - but unfortunately, it could have been someone a while ago as we weren't making enough before to verify 1 known civ w/ tech.

hmm i gave xenon sailing last time and still havent given TAD fishing yet frown

I cant trust my formula for figuring this out - if i do the double FLOOR as instructed no CFC, it comes out slightly off. If I use only a single floor - it also seems to be off in certain situations.

t33:

demos:

suerpjm grew to size 3 (not sure which capitol or 2nd city) I think second city since it was working the shared corn and the cap whipped last turn)

azza grew his city2 to size 2. (1000 soldier points)

another 2000 soldier points - im going to give Superjm hunting since he researched something in 2t!

Here's what's going on where units are exploring:

looks like Azza has gems and banana - therefore we do too. I marked where Rice is on our map.

Looks like TAD fortified on the silver hill. Most likely that is his sentry and we are heading towards his land. That leaves Xenon as our non-adjacent neighbor. The warrior in Azza's land should meet him - but it could be up to 12 turns away.

Actually was able to verify it is TAD's area. I just randomly was screwing arround with the satellite camera + options and saw this:

Also - Catwalk continued to walk right toward me. I am afraid that I dont understand combat at all - at least its not like i remembered it from earlier civ franchise.

Here comes Catwalk's warrior with +10% strength. I put a +10 warrior in a simulation game on open ground and tried to attack it with a non-promo warrior. I knew I wouldn't win (32% odds), but i expected to at least damage it so that my second warrior could finish it off.

In 3 tries, i didn't even scratch the +10% warrior. Does this sound right?? i just spent time popping another warrior out so i could go triple team him if he got frisky and tried to snag a fast worker. For example - if he moved as shown, i could triple hit him (to no avail?!)

With those kind of battle-results, i could have 30 warriors to his 1 and they wouldnt do me any good. Also those results are scaring me into hunting->archery next smile

Ah, is your sim with new random seed on? Otherwise you're getting the same bad result because it's the same seed. 32% ought to scratch it, in general I take those odds for two warriors vs a C1 warrior.

also - with culture out that far - i think it proves that TAD settled the horse /sheep/wheat site first. There is a site there on the hill that gets 8 tiles - no problem, but since it overlaps with the 4th ring from the cap - the cap growth couldnt have been 14. It certainly would gain 5 when popping BFC though - so that agrees. maybe someone else gained 3 tiles the same time TAD gained 11? That must be the only explanation, but dont see any quick evidence for it.

Oops = accidentally read your post in superjm's thread, Commodore.

I agree this does tend to ruin casual single player smile

Anyway - As there's been a break in the turn pace, I thought i would try to focus a little on Diplo.

Curious as to the lurker opinion.... is doing no Diplo at this stage ok? its in game AI diplo with the extensions, so its not like i can say much anyway. Here's my thoughts:

superjm - since i originally wanted to settle towards him and grab some extra flood plains, I played nice and offered initial NAP to t40. Also his start seems to indicate he might not be fast-expanding. I think i want to get a workboat up his way to open up the coastal trade. I'll have to build it in Ferb (city #2)

TheArchDuke - The rules, as written, say we can put turn restrictions on "gifts and trades" but doesnt indicate any way to offer gifts in the first place. I am going to take that to mean that we can propose gifts with the diplo extensions although it should have been spelled out. maybe ill post in the tech thread.

catwalk BS-ing about early attacks, but he hasn't unlocked praets yet. He also leaked to me that his "rules interpretation" post in the tech thread resulted from him trying to offer a 50t nap to someone. Well -- a 50t nap?? apparently, he wants to focus his attention on a different front.

azza my intention was to not offer azza (or catwalk) naps so that they wouldnt feel as free to openly persue growth. But now Im not so sure... i want to be safe with at least one of these guys. Perhaps I will try catwalk even though his earlier blustering put me off. I dont know. Both of them are FIN - so I think i am going to be out-teched in the late game if we get there. Also - expanding toward the flood plains means i havent extended toward Azza and could find him on my doorstep in no time. Same with catwalk.

Xenon - havent met him, but he appears to be my non-neighbor.

This whole post seems worthless - i still don't know exactly how to go about diplo here smile

I should check and see if tech trading is on.
