Showcases of Europa Universalis 3

yeah, but that scenario doesnt start until 1780ish, the game ends in 1830ish, so the game won't last long.

The timurids and golden horde can get pretty big, I assume especially if they are played by a human. they tend to not be able to handle themselves and collapse if played by an AI, so I don't imagine they are easy to play.

I'm not sure if the Mughals (I spelt it wrong it the first post) are in the game (I'd imagine they are, but you never know), but the historical empire was Mongol-descended and ruled over India, Afgahnistan, Pakistan, etc from about 1520 AD to the late 18th Century and small portions until 1857. Cuturally, they were mostly Persian (they originally came to India from Mongolia via Persia).

It could be fun to play a nation like the Golden Horde that is large and powerful, but prone to collapses. It would be different type of challenge.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

ok, I guess the Mughals are represented by the Timurid empire then??

There are also the Mamluks, which are muslims that control egypt, saudi arabia, and the middle east (up to the ottoman borders) at game start.

Pretty sure you can form the Mughal Empire in a similar manner to forming most other nations / empires, get the requisite cores as am eligible culture and enact the relevant decision.

I believe the Timurids are a nation that can form the Mughal Empire, though it might be slightly different methodology given they're a horde?

My vote is actually keep on with your current game, just do a fade to black and

...sometime later....

And pick up from where you do have the save. You can fill us in on the important steps you missed later (this assumes you havent played too much further than we have read, only say 3 or 4 updates)

I think he doesn't have a save at all, so he'd have to start over.

Although he isn't really that far along, so starting over is an option. Unless he's just too bored with Aragon.

What about playing as the Papal States? What does that do?
More people have been to Berlin than I have.

that would be fun, tho tough. They aren't in the HRE, and they can't ever change government types (they are "papacy" government type - only country that can pick that, and they can never change). The upside is if you get overrun, Catholic countries tend to not want to annex you (although they will take any extra provinces besides Rome you have, like Romagna).

They also always have a 100% "papal relations" modifer, so its easier to get cardinals under your control.

So... when does the poll close and we move past the brainstorm phase?

Now! lol

So I'm going to combine the top two options and do showcases on concepts, but let you all pick which nations I use. I'm compiling a master list of what I want to show and possible nations to do it as, which I'll keep here for reference.

Military:
  • France
  • Golden Horde
  • Ottoman Empire

Economy/Trading:
  • Venice
  • Holland
  • Novgorod

Colonization:
  • England
  • Munster
  • Portugal

Non-European Power
  • The Mumluks
  • The Timurds
  • Vijayanagar

Separate Political Systems
  • Bohemia (Holy Roman Empire)
  • Ming (Faction system)
  • Japan (Daimyos)

Suicide (Really Really hard)
  • Bar
  • Navarre
  • Iriquois
  • Ryukyu

If there are any other nations that you would really really want to see I can change what I have in my lists. I tried to pick nations that are well suited for the various goals I've outlined here, and while almost anything can be done by anyone I want to look at strengths, not try and World Conquest as the hardest nation possible... this time around. smoke

If not, then I can get ready to go ahead and start the first nation, which will be one out of the Military category. Reply with what nation out of France, Golden Horde, or Ottomans you would like to see, and once I see a consensus/good majority I'll start playing!
