EitB.
No Mercurians.
The Mercurian summoning strategy has been very played out. Even when it doesn't get the victory, it does heavily warp the game around it. I'd just prefer not to play that kind of game this time.
I'm fine with everything else.
A small compensation for the Illians wouldn't be out of order, but I'm a biased source. A first tier tech like Agriculture, Ancient Chants or Crafting could be a small boost to make up for their loss.

Check out the thread for FFH VII .

I'd vote against that. For me, the appeal of the longer game is that we eventually get to play with the end-game toys. So
lengthening via game-speed defeats the purpose.
So, let me try and summarize what I think is the consensus we're arriving at:
Mod: EitB
Lairs: On
Living World: On
Huts: Off
Bans: Keelyn, Stasis, maybe also Lanun+Clan at mapmaker's discretion.
Mercurians: No.
Hyborem: Yes.
Diplomacy: Limited in the style of FFH XX (can send messages only on your turn).
Map: Large builder map, to be made by Merovech.
Questions still to be addressed:
Difficulty? (Might affect leader choices.)
Compensate the Illians for losing Stasis? (I think a worker + worker tech is fair)
Human Hyborem or no? (Any volunteers to stay unspoiled?)
Tower of Mastery? (I like Ellimist's proposal of allowing it, but having it require Omniscience)
Extras to start with (leave this to Merovech?)
Am I forgetting anything?
And, most important of all... anyone want to dedlurk me? My thread in XXIII is so lonely..

I'm ok with all of that. Would like a clarification on what 'only on your turn' means - do I need to figure out the chat interface in game, or can that be e-mail? Is there any length limit? Etc.

Would like it to be high - maybe Deity? Seven had a point earlier about midgame speed being caused by low difficulty, I bet it applies similarly to EitB as to BtS

I'm indifferent. Abstain, vote with the majority, something like that.

Agreed, I like Ellimist's answer here.
Quote:Extras to start with (leave this to Merovech?)
Merovech's proposal of Exploration or a similar tech, plus a Supplies, seems reasonable to me. I'd be ok with anything at the same power level as that.

Which version of EitB? I think I'd like v9, don't want to wait on Sareln's jet lag to end or have him feel rushed, plus I've already got two installs in parallel, don't really want to move to v10 until one of the other games ends.

I'll do it! Surely I can provide unbiased advice For instance, on a big buildery map, you obviously want one of Tasunke or Charadon, and your first priority should be to rush the Illians...no? Ok, I'll stick to my own thread .
I'd be happy to have dedlurkers, too. Going to try to step up my game a notch, and that's easier with someone to bounce ideas off of. Thoth, I'm even going to aim to have an actual worker micro plan this time, instead of letting workers wander around aimlessly.
Also, um, I've had my civ request list ready for a week already. If we're ready on settings, can we go ahead and send picks to Merovech, and request a forum, and start spamming analyzing our options?

I haven't yet run the map by anyone, but if you guys want to pick civs, I think the Lanun should probably be banned (or, more accurately, I think they are in a grey area and it is better to err on the side of banning them), while the Clan do not need to be banned. I'm also unsure about OO, but if someone is unhappy with the final bans, we could always adjust the picks then.
So yeah, feel free to send me your picks.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.
1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.
2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.
3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.
4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Yep. No one else to recruit. I don't think any of the remaining settings will cause anyone to jump ship, anyway. We can hash out the last details over there.

Is it a bad sign that I was seriously considering Tasunke? (Big map just means you need faster horses for the rush!)

Depends on how confident you are that I'm right, doesn't it? I mean, EitB23 clearly shows that I'm not yet expert at this . As does 18, and 10, and...
