[NO PLAYERS] Seeding and ranking discussion

I don't know, these guys have no chance of winning because of all this gainless aggression. It's super entertaining, but it IS still bad play. Entertaining but bad play has been a staple of games here for forever.

They sure seem to be about to conquer all of Native America. Ipecac needs to get a Karl Urban FAST:

Yeah, this move looks like it might turn out to be a positive ... but then so did the OH attack at the time.

Nothing is yet decided. As has been pointed out already, that tech rate is not looking so good. This may be one of those "meanwhile, on the other side of the map..." situations. If another civ can emerge in good shape, with good expansion and development, and out tech the Viking team then this may end much differently than it looks now.

Honestly, I would be surprised to see the Viking civ win right now. This is about the worst economic stagnation I've seen. But this has been incredibly entertaining. hammer thumbsup

So what turn will world governments unite to deal with the Viking pirate menace? As much fun as it all is now I think it's going to end badly for OT6MN. Eventually they're going to be dogpiled by everyone they ever raided, in an unusual bit of MP solidarity.

Given the state of their economy and horrific diplomatic standing, I'm having a tough time visualizing them as anything other than an eventual conquest for Gavagai (presumably about an era after he finally turns on Old Harry).

If X = the number of cities I should have then I'm going to guess X-3.

I currently have 6 cities was it worth building HG for that many?

Sigh, try more like X - 10 or so. frown Well, this is BTS I guess, with +100% Stone, and he's Ottomans, so maybe a dozen city HG woulda still been decent. Might still not be worth the risk, considering the problems he's had with the Vikings.

That wonder has been such a poison-laced honeypot at this website... just what is it about it that drives people in a frenzy to score it 5, 6, 7 cities?

Six is actually the bare minimum if you're writing off the cost of the Hannam and have stone.

In my experience it's a pretty unpopular wonder that rarely falls before 9-10 cities in veteran games. That said, it does tend to fall too early in weaker fields like this one. It seems like games lately have tilted towards being larger, and the larger the field, the more likely someone less experienced/skilled will be suckered into building it too quickly.

The population boost can be quite nice if you time it perfectly (not all 1-pop boosts are created equally), but the problem that I think less experienced players miss sometimes is the risk in pursuing it is higher than normal because you need to build a (potentially useless) Aqueduct first. At least with other wonders you can time it to finish with chops that can be easily aborted if the wonder falls, but this one requires a little more up-front investment to have a shot at it. You can definitely finish it in 1T with Aqueduct overflow, but if you're good enough to do that, you're good enough to figure out that maybe you shouldn't build it yet.

The other thing easily missed is that pursuing it is it's the type of wonder that makes you think that all you need to do is a food/hammer analysis (food gained converted to hammers - hammers invested) and build it when you're in the black. Of course, that ignores the pretty large opportunity cost of what else you could have done with those hammers at a pretty critical stage of the game. That's probably the thing likely to trip up intermediate players who snag it still a little too soon.
