I had a very quick look at the situation yesterday (when logging in just to unpause) and I can say that the situation wasn't nearly as catastrophic for me as my worst fears had let me believe. For now I'm therefore still far from conceding.

I feel like a team missing one turn isn't catastrophic, but we certainly should be looking for options during this next turn.
No response to CH's message 5 days ago. No one has even logged in for two weeks. The current turn is now at 19 days. REM was on site at least 4 days ago.

REM has had 15 days since I finished my turn to play his own. I hit him hard on my part of the turn (which REM logged in to check) so I understand that this wouldn't be the most fun turn for him to play... ...and it's been holiday season... but still, we can't have one of the two players in the best (most interesting) positions taking over two weeks to play their own turn. It's not really fair to the others in my opinion (and with this kind of pace there'd be over one, perhaps even two years before anyone would reach an official winning condition). Unless we hear back from REM soonish with a good explanation I'd start leaning towards ending the game as well.

Sorry all. I've not been able to do anything game related for a while now. I've been hit hard by IRL family events. I did spot the email from the PM yesterday but didn't have chance until now to post a reply.
I would love to be able to take this to completion but this is not going to be possible. However with what happened last turn I feel taotao has a very strong chance of winning now, certainly more than myself. I made a few plans for how to contend with it before my playing ability changed which would have been nice to see how they panned out.; But I'm more than happy to concede here at this point anyway and sorry for making people wait for this. Well played taotao. (I would add that the first few days were on me working out what I had to do in my head and being generally in a post New Years haze. Those I probably should have got a turn in really.)
Seems like there's a consensus to end things here.
I'd like to thank everyone that has participated (be it as a player, lurker or other role). At times it's been exhilarating, at times mind-boggingly frustrating, but overall just a blast! Might be that the fairest thing would be to simply call the final standings as a draw between REM and me. I think I might agree with REM that I'm slightly in the drivers seat now, but things are certainly tight enough that anything could've happened if we had played it out to the end. Good game everyone!
