Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Where to will Singaboy steer the Teutonic power?

The Deer/Cotton/Milk area East of Seoul, or somewhere further North?

If someone else is getting more value out of it than you are, then that seems like an excellent reason to do it... hammer

I get a few messages, one of them that TheArchduke's friendship thingy has expired. I leave it as it is for now. He is still getting a luxury resource from me for around 25 turns. I am about to start to build serious military, I guess I won't fear his attack so much now.

In the west, the horse archer moved onto the mined hill as expected and in the south, the barb warrior attacked my healthy archer. The trader in Frankfurt is done. I check the trade route and it indicates a nice path from Seoul to Frankfurt, which would improve my mobility quite a bit. I transfer the trader to Seoul.

I start to work on the barbarians and take out the horse archer with a combination of spear and sword attack. I should really have attacked with the sword first, but was afraid it might not be enough. It would have given me another Eureka, if I had defeated the horse archer with the spear. Well, I guess the spear will get its moment of glory later on.

Next turn, I will cover the hill with my spear and get the sword to heal. It is one attack away from getting a promotion, too.

In the south, I move the redlined archer back into Aachen to heal and fire at the barb warrior. The archer there is also just one attack away from earning its promotion. The chariot moves south and promotes on the way next to the wounded scout. I do hope to get to the barb camp there next turn.

I switch the worked tiles in Aachen to increase production to 16.8 hammers and shorten the Hansa by a turn. Now, three cities will finish their production in 2 turns, which will be a great time to swap policy cards as described in previous posts. Hence, I chnage the civic research for a turn to time the completion of G&R with the production cycle.

Frankfurt starts its Hansa, thanks to production overflow, it's done in 5 turns. Both Aachen and Frankfurt will have big boosts in their production in a few turns. I will need it to pump units/builders and more infrastructure. Frankfurt, for example, needs a granary for housing, ideally it should go for a market to offset the additional costs from Hansas, walls and future units. I would like to have a gold buffer to be able to upgrade at least one swordsman. Next turn, however, I will need to buy the rainforest tile at Ulm (cost: 68 gold) before changing policies.

The settler/warrior pair keeps moving and is 2 turns from settling. By the way, the swamp tile currently occupied by the settler/warrior would be ideal for the Hansa. This means that the CH would ether go to the grasshill or forest. I could also plant a campus on one of those useless tundra tiles next to the mountain. However, as stated previously, it will start first on a monument to increases border growth.

Now for the shocking news. Woden suddenly made 3 Great merchant points last turn eek He will overtake me easily next turn. This means he either finished 3 CH (unlikely, but not impossible) or has researched Guilds (a little too far off in the civics tree). Anyway, this means that I need to boost my Great Merchant efforts pretty quickly by getting more CH and markets. Frankfurt might go for a market after its Hansa. With a production cost of 105 hammers, this should be possible in 4 -5 turns. Aachen and Ulm have to have their CH too. Still, with a mere 60 GPP, it might be difficult to keep up with Woden in this race.

Hmmm, 3GM points; certainly possible he finished 3CHs in sync, though I agree somewhat unlikely. Is he getting any bonuses from CS Suzerain status? I guess you might need to invest in a CH project if you want to guarantee the first GM.

Yes, I might have to set Frankfurt on a mission to build a market, followed by CH projects. Currently, Woden will finish the GM in 19 turns. This will be tight as the Hansa + market would take around 10 turns.

In 10 turns, I will have 16/60 points, Woden 33/60. I doubt, I am able to catch up with Woden.

Production is going to be done in three cities next turn. This is the quiet turn before the 'storm'. TheArchduke and oledavy are now friendly with each other. Their military score is pretty high too and oledavy has a chariot sniffing around near Seoul. Luckily Seoul will get its walls up next turn and Aachen soon starts to produce cavalry aplenty.

The settler almost reaches its destination in the SW. The promotion archer got attacked by the barbarian warrior, but it doesn't do them much good. I promote the archer and heal the other. I will send them to Frankfurt soon just in case. In the south, that chariot uncovers the empty barbarian camp, but can't enter it yet, due to it being on a hill.
I will need the gold from it as I bought the Hansa tile in Ulm before the price increases and the policy expires. I want to have enough gold to be able to promote the warrior that covers the settler in the west.

The trader in Seoul starts its route to Frankfurt for 1f2p (I do hope once the Hansa is up, the reward will actually increase).

The next few turns will be critical in the sense, that I am still vulnerable to attacks due to the limited defenses I have. I still would like to produce a builder in Aachen first before going for horsemen. I swapped my civic research to be able to change policies next turn. It will be an eventful turn for sure.

With oledavy & TheArchduke now at Peace, and you about to plant two more cities, I'd recommend getting a few more units out before trying a builder in Aachen. Maybe Ulm can build the Builders?

Is there a minimum time limit of re-declaring war in Civ VI, like the 10T enforced Peace in Civ IV? (I confess I haven't played enough to know myself)

TheArchduke can declare war on me now, but oledavy can not do that yet. There is a limit of at least 10 turns. Peace was declared on turn 68, this means I got a window of three turns from now. I had planned to produce two builders in Aachen and Ulm from next turn onward. However, it might be wise to produce two horseman in Aachen and maybe a chariot in Frankfurt once the Hansa is done.
I might also want to become suzerain for Preslav to provide additional amenities and +2 production in encampments.

Unfortunately, wiki was wrong and Maneuver only provides +50% production for cavalry. Still, it's plenty of discount.

What is the current Strat resource and Government distribution of the others? I see that oledavy has an Encampment up and running now...

oledavy is running classical republic like me as his GP points have that 15% bonus. He has to have an encampment as Hattusa provides him with strategic resources that he has uncovered and I assume only 1 copy of it. In the trade display, he still only has horses and no iron.

I have to check on TheArchduke. I actually do not expect him to war again as he is pretty far behind in score. But, one never knows. I would have hoped for oledavy to turn his attention west where the real runaway civ of Woden lies.

Both have a military strength of close to 300, but as my units are injured, the 200+ I have is not a real reflection of the actual strength. It would be around 250, I assume if all units are fully healed. Add a few cavalry to it and I will have the same strength as them.

No news flash is popping up. But a civic and three builds are done. The situation at the beginning of the turn:

First things first, I found the southern city of Garmisch, with German's highest peak, the Zugspitze, it simply can't be Heidelberg as the game suggested. I drop down the campus next to the mountain to lock its cost, but start on a monument to expand toward the iron as soon as possible.

The next step is to select the new policy cards as pointed out before. I will produce cavalry and builders, before swapping back to two more settlers. Hence, this is selected:

I choose Defensive Tactics, as this will enable me to better fight both oledavy or TheArchduke, in case they get the wrong ideas. My military rating is still way below them, though this should improve with my swordsman promoted and the arches now starting to heal.

I start a horseman in Aachen, which now makes a much improved 21 hpt, and that is before the Maneuver bonus. There is also still the stones to be improved to boost production as well as an additional +2 to be gained from Preslav. (PS, a quick check again shows that production is now 23hpt as the +2 toward units was not taken into account in the initial display, that's Civ 6 UI for you)

I reassign the tiles at Ulm properly and start a builder, ready in 4 turns. The city will grow in 5 turns and mine the hill tile boosting production further, going for a second builder and then finally start to build Hansa and CH. Seould start to repair its monument, this will be done in 2 turns. I do realize that Ulm's trade route automatically gained +1 production due to the Hansa being done in Aachen.

The situation at the end of the turn:

My overall score has much improved thanks to the new city. A check of the others reveals that TheArchduke is an oligarchy, while oledavy is a Classical Republic as stated in my last post.

For techs, Engineering is a tiny fraction away from being done. Machinery and x-bows do then take 9 turns to complete.
