[SPOILER] PB37 Dark Savant tries not to be a blatant MP n00b

Okay, dtay is whipping a ton of stuff.

I hadn't even considered it until maybe a turn or two ago, but I have to wonder if going after Gavagai will actually pay off.

In that case, I may want to abort Astronomy and go straight for Gunpowder.  crazyeye

I played this turn on sort of autopilot (I'm playing it at 3:30 AM local time because I can't sleep).  I started a few military units.

But I really should think about swapping some more builds to knights next turn -- I lazily defaulted to a few peaceful builds, but that can't continue.

I'm still uncertain whom.  chumchu and Krill are still fighting each other (chumchu is sending an expedition to apparently retake Regna), and so are Gavagai and dtay.  I have no idea what GermanJoey is up to -- he has a ton of EP on everyone.

If I can't make up my mind it's probably best to attack chumchu -- that peace treaty did get a lot of his units out of my hair, so I don't regret signing it.  Oh, and I planted a city on the dead border between us.  It's going to get walls and a castle before our peace treaty expires (it's on a hill behind a river, too).

I also have a Heroic Epic underway, finally.

More knights are under production now, though I'm hesitant to whip everywhere until I have a clear target.

Maybe I'll reassess the situation when I'm less tired and hungry and have more time.

I'm lazily building some more knights, but everyone is showing up with castles and pikemen by now.  Is that too late for whipping knights?  I'm not actually sure.

Would it be better to wait until I have both galleons and Oromos?  I'm not sure if I can wait that long.

The chumchu-Krill and Gavagai-dtay wars still appear to be raging.

Depends. If you have viable land targets for knights, then it still might be worth it to whip them.

If even island targets have pikes, then wait till Oromos and don't whip any knights.

On astro bulb: that usually requires dedicated beeline and bulbing.

Coeurva has a pike on a potential island target, and Gavagai has had Janissaries for a while.

I have several knights as mobile defense and attackers, but okay, no whipping them or pikes now except in case of emergency.

Something to consider for the next game -- it didn't occur to me at all this game.

Astronomy is due in 2 turns.

I lost GP roulette in Sorpigal -- it just produced a Great Merchant, the most likely type.  I need more buildings there just to shift the probability away from those now.

dtay and Gavagai just made peace, so war with Gavagai is probably not a great idea now.  chumchu/Coeurva - Krill is the only active war now, and my peace treaty with chumchu expires next turn, though I don't have troops in place to declare war immediately.

Krill has a 4-galleon strike force in range of Westward Ho! (on chumchu's eastern coast).  I have no idea what happened to chumchu's galleon force that was in range of Regna, but he did just lose a GG galleon.

The turn has rolled; I haven't had the chance to get to it yet, but ...

I'm wondering whether to attack chumchu at all.  I did start to move units his way, but if Gavagai attacks me I'll be rather vulnerable to the mass janissaries he has.  I don't have a great power rating right now, he did just sign peace with dtay, and it'll be several more turns before our UU comes online.

I do have to take a risk sometime, though ...

chumchu and Krill signed peace, leaving no wars at all anywhere.

Well, unless Gavagai declares war on me.  There are enough of his galleons hanging out nearby that I don't think declaring war on anyone at all is a good idea.  I think I've already missed whatever window there was.  Is it just me, or are those windows really narrow?

I'm going to re-shift troops northward to potentially intercept any invasion.  I can think about initiating war once Gunpowder is online and someone somewhere declares another war.

Astronomy is due next turn.

Good question. Usually there are no windows at all. Basically it can appear in just 2 cases:
 1. Somebody is noob.
 2. You beeline your strategy to construct this window and sacrifice many aspects just to get 5 turn window to attack someone. If you are facing good opponents those opportunities will be short and this game is often decided by just 1 turn.

I dont know what is actually worse just slow build units and hope that some opportunity emerge or go all-in for farmers gambit and reasonably expect that noone cares.

Okay, that makes sense considering what I've seen and what I understand about the game, but man you've got to be quick on the draw here, or take serious gambles.

It's now clear that I can't attack anyone now without gunpowder units, or more knights than it will be worthwhile to whip.
