Anyone up for an EitB SG?

In Der Wille's EitB thread I expressed an interest in playing an SG specifically using the High to Low mechanic.

Now most people probably already know the High to Low mechanic, but here's a refresher anyway: When you get your first civ to top of the leaderboard you switch to the lowest rank team, when you get that second team to the top you switch again to the now lowest ranked team who you play the game out with. I played a Monarch (IIRC) level High to Low SG years ago and it was an absolute blast. I'll see if I can dig it up again (thread's at CFC).

Other settings:
Erebus Continent, Standard size, Medium water other settings default
All victories on, all allowed
Emperor level (Monarch is ok too)
No vassals (hate that mechanic)
Wildlands (extra barbs, scouts get eated quicklier)
Living World (doubles events supposedly, I always play with it on so IDK)
All Unique Features
No Archeron

And most important: random leader, no point hand picking somebody only to lose them soon after.

Any takers? I'm pretty flexible on the settings.

Edit: Quick or Normal speed only. When playing alone Epic is ok, but as an SG it's too long.

I'll join if you don't mind someone with somewhat limited understanding of FfH/EitB. I've played a number of SP games of varying lengths, but I don't have a very deep understanding of it.

We can always bring down the difficulty rating, Monarch will still be challenging enough with two rounds of AI smoke.

One last thing I forgot to mention in the OP, no sandbagging or artificially skewing the first two civs. We play the best we can given the hand we're dealt with (obviously this also allows for skill caps of the players). The first two civs will be played as if we were permanently with them, it'll make it all the sweeter when we pull them down again with our final civ.

The High to Low mechanic is a lot of fun. An SG would be very interesting. I have not kept up with the changes in EitB -- can anyone provide or point me to a summary of the differences from the more standard FfH? I am not particularly skilled at FfH but I at least sort of know what I am doing. lol EitB would be new to me.

I'm super keen. My knowledge of FFH mechanics is, to be honest, atrocious - but I absolutely adore it nonetheless. I've only ever played up to Monarch and without Wildlands, and found the barbarians tough enough - hopefully I won't be too much over my head here. lol

Agree with most of the other settings. Acheron though? I always enjoyed seeing that hulking behemoth on the map, even if it usually took me most of the game to take him down. Is there a good reason for him being disabled, or just personal preference? I'd rather have him on if it doesn't mess with things too much. smile

Prefer Normal speed, Quick messes with the research/production/travel time balance too much for my liking. We're not doing a PBEM so turn time shouldn't be an issue - let's go Normal.

High to Low mechanic - I've always been intrigued by this, but never enough to try it in one of my own games because I like the sense of continuity. In a social setting though, High to Low seems like it'd be awesome fun and good entertainment. Let's do it!

No sandbagging - had to look up this term but agreed. Play as if to win from each hand we're given, don't tilt the board in favor of the next civ we could be playing.

haphazard1 - I've attached EITB v1-9 and v10-11 changelogs vs base FFH. The final v12 changelog is on the forum here. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a distilled cumulative changelog for all v1-12 yet.

I'd be interested in joining, though obviously I'm not the best player in the world.

That describes my skill level pretty well, also. lol I enjoy FfH and have won a fair number of SP games as various civs, but there is still a lot that I am only partly aware of or familiar with. Wildlands is a fun option, but surviving the world and the barbs is plenty challenging even before the other civs are considered. smile

Thanks for the EitB info! I will have to read up on the changes, and install the v12 for some experimentation.

That was a quick signup.

I see:
Brian
Mr Cairo
Lord Parkin
superjm and
haphazard
as a potential roster here, while I don't mind jumping in if anybody drops out (have played a fair amount of ffh2, but not any EitB).
I'd suggest monarch level AI at the highest in view of the low amount of EitB played and may I suggest not doing the same civs as the last high to low SG? (at least not start with Kurios, Hyborem/Basium might be needed for a winnable last civ?)

And I'll add the link to the previous high-to-low-SG in this

btw. do you want to have tech-trading on? I'd say that's one of the more relevant choices for start-up?

I don't particularly mind which civs are in the game. Briefly checked out the previous games - didn't they use most of the civs already by now? Hard to use any that haven't been done already. A few that were left out in the past (Doviello) seem to have been with good reason, but I'll leave that up to others' judgment. smile

Thanks for the link to the previous game, taotao! That's a trip down memory lane for me. lol Been some time since I have played any FfH/mod, much has been forgotten.

I have no particular preferences on which civs are in the game.
