Turn 61 (1560 BC) - Part 5 (C&D)

Score tally:
  • Us: +4 points for +1 pop in King's Landing (18 pop in 4 cities).
  • Charriu: +3 points for +1 pop; +4 points for planting city #4 claiming 6 new land tiles (11 pop in 4 cities).  About time, I suppose.
  • ipecac: +7 points for +2 pop (13 pop in 5 cities).
  • JR4: No change (14 pop in 5 cities).
  • superdeath: +7 points for +2 pop; -3 points for a 1-pop whip (11 pop in 5 cities).
  • wetbandit: No change (12 pop in 4 cities).
  • WilliamLP: No change (10 pop in 4 cities).  He doesn't have Writing; I'm not sure about the points he got last turn anyway.
  • yuris125: No change (12 pop in 4 cities).
I don't know how much longer I can keep this up, but I'll try.

Oh, I didn't think about the general generation.  Ah well.

It just occurred to me that I'm saving forests at Casterly Rock for no particular reason at the moment.  They were being saved for the Great Lighthouse, but now that is being prepared somewhere else.

I'm not sure whether to cash them in on a galley and a settler (except I don't yet know if there's anywhere good for them to go), or save them for a later wonder (and if so, which one).  I'll probably build a worker first after this archer completes.

I also still have two capital forests I just haven't gotten around to chopping.  I've stopped just short of doing so twice already ... "whoa, let's plant to the west, move a lot of stuff that way" and "this barb warrior is interfering".  It already won't save more than one turn on a settler, so I'll have to see if I can arrange chopping them into a city near the eastern horses.

After I finish Sailing and research Masonry, I need to consider which technologies to pursue next.  The solid default is simply Writing, but Polytheism to Monotheism for Judaism is a possibility.

I'm still waiting for ipecac/Commodore to play.

Once I get my workers off the pig (workers on the border -- cause for concern for both sides, I have to guard them against impis, and ipecac has to worry I might suddenly flood him with axes) and the archer in, I'm going to again ask "is this turn split over".  Definitely no road on the pig.  Eventually, ipecac will want to put a road on the marble, and I'll have to forever be on my guard after that.

While I wait ... Apple engineering recently had another reply-all e-mail fiasco.

If you think Apple engineers know not to participate in reply-all e-mail chains that go to thousands of employees ... you're wrong.  Very wrong.

(Though come to think of it, I never saw this happen at IBM or Intel -- but the main reason for that is that Apple floods you with an avalanche of e-mail.  That makes it much more likely someone will hit reply-all.)

Then again, Apple is also the sort of company where the internal meme site (yes, that is a thing!) then lights up with image macros about stupid co-workers replying to all.

This has been a Dark Savant Blog/postcount++ Post.

No response to PM, it's getting late here, I'm not getting any advantage from double-moving, I'm going to play now.

Turn 62 (1520 BC) - Part 1

This turn's "really?" What is:

Why does Charriu's 4th city show "Liberate"?  I don't actually see its borders, but it must be in our direction somewhere.  Any lurker know how close a city has to actually be before that shows up?

It must be somewhere in this area, hiding in the fog:

Charriu produced a 4th axe on turn 60.  He can't possibly have all four axes in a stack, but it'll still pay to be very wary, and maybe we should grab horses sooner rather than later?

Pushing Stonesnake forward reveals:

It appears ipecac plans to plant his 6th city soon-ish in this area, but this is also clearly a backline city for him.  It does get him horses in second-ring.

Our workboat moving northwest finds this:

Okay, that land is clearly an isthmus now.  And why is there no sign of wetbandit here?  This work boat is actually not that far from where his capital is expected to be (you can see in the lower right that it's not really that far from where Ser Waymar Royce got snuffed out).

Turn 62 (1520 BC) - Part 3

Core overview:
  • I continue pulling away Yoren from ipecac.  We'll need to cover against that barb warrior and Charriu.
  • I also pull both workers off the ipecac border.  One will work on the deer, the other on the sheep.
  • Casterly Rock reaches size 5, completing an archer.  It starts a worker, at 15 foodhammers/turn.
  • That archer heads towards ipecac to replace the axe I'm withdrawing.
  • Mikken starts repairing the road to the planned next city (though I'm wondering how close Charriu is now).
  • Septon Chayle builds a road on the forested hill, and is ready to run away from the incoming barb warrior next turn without any loss of time on improving Oldtown.
  • Lommy completes a cottage at Oldtown, just in time for it to work it for 16 foodhammers.  At 51/100 now, so I can get the settler to exactly 99 (for Great Lighthouse overflow).
  • Science at 70% this turn (36 total commerce, 25 science 10 gold).

I'm not sure what the proper response is to Charriu's fourth city, partly because I don't know where it is.

Turn 62 (1520 BC) - Part 4 (C&D)

Score tally:
  • Us: +3 points for +1 pop in Casterly Rock (19 pop in 4 cities).
  • Charriu: +3 points for +1 pop (12 pop in 4 cities).
  • ipecac: No change (yet to play, 13 pop in 5 cities).
  • JR4: +6 points for another technology (not sure what this is); +3 points for +1 pop (15 pop in 5 cities); -10 points for a 1-pop whip and a 2-pop whip (12 pop in 5 cities).
  • superdeath: No change (11 pop in 5 cities).
  • wetbandit: No change (12 pop in 4 cities).
  • WilliamLP: now I think his score increase on t60 was +3 pop, 8 land tiles, and no tech; this turn: +16 points for 11 land tiles in his capital's third ring claimed for 20 turns; +6 points for a technology researched in 11 turns (still believed to be Animal Husbandry); +3 points for +1 pop (12 pop in 5 cities).
  • yuris125: +6 points for a technology researched in 6 turns.  He doesn't have Hunting yet so I'll tentatively mark this as that.  (12 pop in 4 cities).
I am wondering if JR4 is angling to build the Great Lighthouse.  We're due to finish on turn 75 ourselves.  ipecac will have a harder time, being Imperialistic (attempting to overflow from a settler into the Great Lighthouse results in the overflow divided by the Imperialistic bonus).

wetbandit is now running low on both city count and pop.  He's Charismatic, he shouldn't be that badly happy-constrained.

I'm still wondering just what Charriu is up to, and what his plans are.
