Starting Screen:
The fog and corner (i.e. non-BFC) tiles might possibly still change, but should actually be at least roughly accurate at this point. Let me know in the tech thread if the image isn't visible or something. I won't be reading players' threads until I'm finished with the rest of the map: I actually asked a non-civ playing, non-forum member friend randomize the starting images and am posting them without looking at them to be sure knowledge of different players won't influence the way I try to balance things. That's probably more extreme than necessary, but I'll also enjoy the surprise when the map is fully finished and I finally find out which screens are whose!
I chose Persia because they have a decent UU and start with Agriculture.
Their UB is a Market replacement so I want an Expansive leader, which means one of: Bismark (IND) Isabella (SPI) Joao (IMP) Mao Zedong (PRO) Mehmed (ORG) Pacal (FIN) Peter (PHI) Shaka (AGG) Suryavarman (CRE) Washington (CHA) So now it's really just a matter of ranking them. The Satrap Court reduced maintenance, so Mehmed with cheap Courthouses goes well with them, letting me cheaply build a lot of buildings and eventually getting -75% maintenance on my cities. FIN also gives a bonus to markets, but not when paired with EXP it turns out, so I don't get even faster SCs, but FIN is still ok. IMP is always good just in general, and it now comes with reduced maintenance. IND is pretty underrated I think, just from the cheap Forges, let alone the wonder bonus. CRE is also always good. So my ranking will be thus: Mehmed (ORG) Pacal (FIN) Suryavarman (CRE) Joao (IMP) Bismark (IND) Washington (CHA) Shaka (AGG) Peter (PHI) Mao Zedong (PRO) Isabella (SPI)
I've got Commodore to the north:
![]() Boadicea of Japan, a fairly good warring combo with cheaper promos and more xp from the UU. and Miguelito to the south: ![]() Justinian of India. IMP so faster settler, I can't really rate new India, but it's Pike replacement seems pretty good at defending, even up to Cavs. I'm more concerned with Commodore for an early attack, but right now Miguelito has the better chance of hurting my by landgrabbing and cutting me off. I'm going to turn around with my scout and not contact Commodore. I plan to push my first settler out pretty far, I don't want to end up boxed in this peninsula. I'm also going to prioritize Sailing and settling the land across the water to my south, hopefully it's an island I can get a couple cities down on.
This is just a reminder for me from my simming, since it's not the obvious choices:
Wheat farmed first BW->Wheel->Archery->Pottery->Fishing (archer after settler) swap from corn to plains forest hill t20 (2nd warrior and growth 2->3 on same turn) after chop for settler, move to plains forest hill and MINE SWAP TO SLAVERY TURN SETTLER IS BUILT!!!! (don't forget, like every other game) Archer after settler, after revolt work 2 farms and forest grassland until turn 31 when swap to plains forest (grow 3->4 and finish archer on same turn) Worker after archer, worker finishes turn after mine finishes cap goes WB->Archer->Settler (will be size 5) worker at cap makes 1 cottage then chops for 2nd settler (April 8th, 2020, 12:53)Mr. Cairo Wrote: My theme this game will be Culture ship names, from the books by Iain M Banks I approve.
I Think I'm Gwangju Like It Here
A blog about my adventures in Korea, and whatever else I feel like writing about.
I hate this map. Why are we so close? Even assuming there's islands nearby, someone, probably multiple people are going to get screwed over here. I'm already bordering on Commodore.
I'm going to have get very very aggressive here. I have one direction to settle and I can't afford to get boxed in. I'm glad I went for Archery so early, but now I need to quickly hook up my copper, since Commordore is pasturing some Horses, then I'll get AH next and build some Immortals, and get Sailing before Writing.
One disadvantage of not needing Fishing to build Workboats is that it can disguise the fact that you dont actually have Fishing.
Does anyone know what the rewards are for the stables quest? Commodore just completed it, and his power has shot up. He's been sending me a lot of like-for-like trade offers (and accepting them when I send them back, making it public), so I'm hopeful that the target is going to be India. I'm 6 turns from IW and was hoping to be able to have some Swords before fighting India, but I suppose I can join in with my Immortals, and try and take his island. I'm pretty sure that Commodore isn't the type to wait for me to make the first move, considering the power disparity, but unfortunately, he's been at war with India for a while, so the first sign I'll have of actual fighting is the loss of a city, so any real coordination wont be possible.
