[54 Spoilers] Nothing to see here! Miguelito and Rusten's max score game

If truly desperate I start to sim possible tile and resource combinations in the fog mischief . What if there is a fish, what if this and that. Rarely end up getting the exact same thing, but it does help prepare for the future and finding solutions quicker. I'm a bit of a civ nut though, you shouldn't do this  lol

You asked about the flood plains earlier and after some thought I would irrigate at least one of them, definitely. A worker should have time for this and get there without losing movement after chopping a cap forest at some point. We need the food, especially with CHM, and this is vanilla slavery too.

I can guarantee there is fish in the fog. There is probably even fish in the fog within ten turns of wandering. nod
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

Would you consider Suleiman if our other main targets are out or are you completely disinterested in PHI? With guilds being such a key tech I can see a viable bulb path in taking mathematics early for chop boost and then machinery with a later GS to save valuable beakers.

Best way to do this would be if we could delay fishing until our 2nd GS. It's a stretch, but with MC being so cheap now it's not an impossibility with PHI

FWIW the no fishing gambit is not required. You can tech it and the usual stuff, but then you will need to get compass (and calendar) first too in order to open up machinery.

I see we're going down the rabbit hole crazyeye
First, that would be perfect of course for the historic implications. I saw you also play PoE, right? This has some flair of the Ancient Rivalries prophecies. Cyrus is also nice for that theme, but weaker.

The proposed bulb strategy sounds super fun but honestly, I would not bank on being able to delay Fishing. It is quite likely that the 2nd city which we want by the pig will have seafood. Then as you said we'd have to take Sailing (probably good, starts usually have a TR island with some goody nearby), Calendar (maybe useful, but we appear to be closer to the Polar Circle than the Tropics), and Compass (useless). Either way we'd also need to tech Alphabet (of very limited use). Is all that justified in order to get that one Machinery bulb going?

Looking at the bulb list, you should also be able to boost Guilds with a GM if you get Currency through Alphabet and don't take Mathematics (but thats of course very dubious). Need CoL but that's not a bad tech. And of course with PHI you can also get a GE reasonably fast after MC while pushing for Feudalism (but then you don't take advantage of PHI before, which might be a waste).

Would alternatively an Academy + Math bulb (or in reverse order more likely) be a good use of the PHI trait? The capital doesn't seem that splendid to me compared to others we've seen before, but the Academy may still be helpful in the early/midgame when we need to get to Currency and then Guilds. Or maybe there's a really strong commerce city down the river.

I don't dislike PHI, in fact, in my first game (PBEM 64) I picked Peter for it. It's a bit of been there, done that, and also yeah I don't really see a viable bulb strategy here.

Question also is, would João or Cathy (with somewhat cheap +50% libraries) be more helpful for our immediate objective, or would they stall before? Or Julius? Or at which point do we desist from IMP and take Washington or dunno, Churchill? (I had argued against EXP before, but while in fact Pottery can't come very early, we can go straight for it after BW and should get it around t41).

Yeah, I play PoE. You're welcome to join the guild -- it's just me and 1 more RB user right now. That goes for everyone else reading this too.

Funnily enough this current league is the one that I've played the least by far as I didn't like the mechanic, yet this is the league when I finally had a mirror drop crazyeye. Such trolling by GGG, the mirror is only gathering dust in my stash. I got it at lvl 82 or something and haven't logged in since...

On the game here I agree, I'm going out of bounds again. It's too situational. While early mathematics and academy from PHI is good I think we'll reach guilds faster or at least similarly just with fin.

I think exp will be just fine. Not sold on the newest PRO.

Joao or Cathy works. It's a little more early game than I'm used to. But in this case you could argue that our advantage after cataphracts should be so huge that traits won't matter. We just need to get there alive and well. Prefer them over Julius for that reason.

I'll be back by next friday so I can chip in with some sims then. Hopefully we'll still be in the build worker stage.

We're winning the post and viewcount war by a mile so far at least wink

I'm not managing to play both PoE and Civ at the same time, as both are pretty demanding time wise - in PoE I usually don't do more than 1 character per league (well unless I play HC) and reach high maps not before the third month, if at all, and that is with dedicating almost all of playtime. The last season I played was whatwasitcalled the one where you assembled bosses from body parts, and I got really lucky getting a six linked Quill Rain from one of those, just in the league where Explosive Arrow was perfect for that. Got to beat the new final boss (Sirius?), which is my highest achievement in PoE so far, but I was having a lot of performance issues on my notebook - side note, almost all of those disappeared when I learned how to disable sound effects around league end! apparently when you let >100 arrows explode at a time each of those makes a sound, in addition to every monster getting hit and the like. I reported a bit on my Blight and the league after efforts in pindicator's PB46 thread. Then in Delirium the build was nerfed into uselessness and PB49 started, and I haven't come back. But I want to at least when 4.0 releases, and when I do I'll surely look for the guild.

I think pindicator is still playing PoE, then there is Gaspar who has returned to activity on RB and is sporting an Einhar avatar, I think naufragar also mentioned playing somewhere? There used to be a thread in the Diablo subforum. I saw there was an active thread in the Gaming Table last year where you were posting.

Congratulations on the mirror, I think it's perfect as a trophy to keep rotting in Standard wink

Back to our game, I'll take your point about PRO, when I was writing out my case for it before I noticed that in fact it's a bit shaky. I guess I'd like Cathy over Joao, as the libraries would at least help a little with the science push? With Julius my thinking was that he could get us just the economic advantage needed to get to Guilds, but I don't really have a feeling for when his bonuses become relevant. I get that you think that would be later in the game?

I would be very surprised if we got 13 turns down between Thursday and Friday, so you should be good to go straight to work from your vacation tongue. Isn't oyur sequential PB Allstars game starting then as well though?

Cautionary tale, in PB49 we also did very well with posts and thread views shhh

Finally a new question: I guess we should not decide prematurely whether we get AH through Hunting or Agriculture. I think it's more probable to find a deer and/or furs at our preferred site by the pig, but you never know. I've never done the leave tech unselected thing, does it work the same in PB and SP? So the game prompts me to select a tech, which I have to, but then I can deselect it by clicking on the trade bar. But I have to commit on the fifth turn, and since the first turn is turn 0, that is when it says Turn 4 in game. Is all that correct? That also means that the tech has to be selected before the border pop, now that's an advantage of CRE which I had never considered lol

Feel free to amuse yourself re this topic with my and OH's Pitboss 13 thread..

TL;DR: Select your tech one turn earlier in Pitboss vs SP..
Finished:
PBEM 45G, PB 13, PB 18, PB 38 & PB 49

Thanks! PB13 was the first game I lurked here actually, so that's some nostalgia. And the pics are still working! I recently refreshed my memory of the Ichabod raid through the link ion your signature. Didn't you also pull off some Commando raids against mackoti while he swallowed you? I think that was the first time I read of that sort of thing.

But from what I've read, what OH did was to roll into Turn 5 with no tech selected, and then it got selected automatically.

So if I do hit the button when it says Turn 4 (which is actually the fifth because turn 0) I should be good? Putting 5 turns into Fishing would be devastating here, unlike your game. I'll probably chicken and select t3 at the latest...
