Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Fair point. Cav would be nice to stomp Pin with faster as well. Just walking through Charriu should let me have time to get cannon and build a second army. Mind the other thing to consider is the bloody inflation! I'm at 53% now........ Anyone have a table for what it is suppose to be at?

Cairo is researching gunpowder for the record.

Also, since I'm not planning on fighting a 2 front war I am not whipping most of my cities anymore in preparation for the golden age.

Largest army check, best tech check, any idea what to do........

Even after talking to El Grillo a bit more have no clue what to tech. Had an idea. Discarded due to not being immediately relevant. Do I think I can get Taj? Maybe? Pin does have a GS just sitting around to fire off a 2 person GA, so its possible he just wants to build taj during his golden age like I would do. In which case its an uncertain race. I'm back to leaning towards cannons. Jowy btw seems to not be aware of inflation as he is back filling a bunch of cheap religious techs atm, which he 100% should not be doing, please no one mention to him. I went up another 3% and am now barely even at 60% slider again.

Peace treaty runs out T190, If I do a big smash T192 I declare. Only 10 rifles in main stack to his 20 knights. I'll post a picture next turn of most of the non rifle components, but I also have 20 knights. Just takes a while for rifles even with engineering! I could wait a turn for a few more rifles, but I think I'll just have those go other places during the attack. Trying to figure out how many cats he has atm. Think 14+? (9 I know of from his SD conquest and I see a small stack of 5 atm although could be he split, looking around for more atm).

WEIRD IDEA I'VE THOUGHT ABOUT A LOT ALERT!!!!
So here was a question I had about tactics. Conventional would just be go in with back stack and smash. Obviously if I'm right about the number of cats, he is pretty safe. Quick test indicates I get SMASHED still. Pin has not been whipping like he is worried as well. One thing I noticed during PB51 was that SD had shock praetorians I in no way could could touch 1 for 1. The only way I could even dent his larger far superior army was he moved around in a stack and let me hit it with cats (to mixed success but power differential was horrid). What if instead of moving 1 large stack in I split it into 5 small stacks? Think 2 rifles, 1 knight or elephant. Then have the rest of the stack behind that. There wouldn't be a good way for him efficiently trade with the rifles then and would make all his cats pretty ineffective. Would take longer, but reduce the risk of him actually getting to effectively use his army. Part of this is also I don t have a medic general to heal everything back up yet either if it does get hit by cats. Since I would have to do in waves anyways I would start the attack earlier (as trailing rifles would just be part of different stacks).

For what it's worth, I still think Taj is the play, even as late as it is with the risk of someone else building it. I'm also starting to think an attack with Cavalry might make more sense than shoving Rifle/Knights into Cat/Knights. With those numbers, I think the collateral damage would be enough to break the offensive. Worth testing in Zulan's simulator.

Collateral siege is the biggest equalizer.

I uh, LOVE combat in this game ( other than RNG... ) So if you have any questions im sure i can give a wrong answer or two.

Link? I ran a quick test in world builder, wasn't pretty. I just don't think giving his large empire time to recover is right either especially not with Jowy eating up the other front. I like cav only because it helps once I break Pin of actually conquering him fast. I guess the fail gold would help me get other places / upgrade knights into cav, but it does tie up a high production city. Gah can't I just rearrange geography?

How do you keep collateral siege from being a factor? My solution is a solution in so much as he can trade knights for rifles at about = hammers odds dependent. I just have more rifles coming and also = knights to him.

There are two ways that i can think of.

1: Small stacks that cant accomplish much on their own, except make someone's siege inefficient. Doesnt work if someone has..... ALOT of siege though.

2: Get yourself an overwhelming amount of siege (pb43) and the amount of collateral damage that gets through to your units becomes laughable.

Won't large amounts of siege just get flanked away by his knights? (If I remember how flanking works).

If you have cats and rifles in your stack most collateral will hit your rifles as it preferes to hit unist with high base strenght. If you would have muskets and cannons that would work.
