Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Commodore resent the "stop trading with Krill" diplo and this time it did cancel open borders. So yeah, something wonky happened the first time

Krill reoffered open borders right away, along with some luxuries. Don't think I can accept after diplo with Commodore and taking his horses. Generally, I think Krill is well-positioned to win the game unless he gets dogpiled, and I would rather align myself with the dogpiling players. Gives me the best chance of still contributing to the game in a meaningful way

That said, doesn't look like others see the game in the same way, Krill has open borders with everyone but Commodore and now me

So I've been hoping that someone attacks Bing and I can jump in, but tbh I doubt that will happen. Bing is sandwiched between Krill and myself, and Krill doesn't need to go to war to win. I might just have to do it myself

I currently have 8 war elephants and 4 catapults, already ahead of Bing on the power graph, and finishing essential infrastructure in Old Sharlayan and Rhalgr's Reach (the former barb city) - they can switch to military builds shortly. Probably will declare soon and send my workboat to see what kind of defences I'm facing - unfortunately sentry chariot doesn't see far enough

Alternatively, Krill has the old Superdeath's cities very lightly defended, so if a dogpile on Krill materialises, there are some potential gains there. But going against Krill all by myself would be suicide

So since Bing is sandwiched between Krill and me, one way to ensure I get my share of the spoils is by coordinating my attack with the big attack on Krill. Commodore seemed to be taking sounding for said dogpile, with limited success judging by the fact that everyone keeps borders with Krill open. How can I ask him in AI diplo whether a dogpile is happening, and if he has an estimate? hmmmmm

Barb city spawned in the ice at Rhalgr's Reach. Free XP and gold, I guess?

Bing has this missionary on my border

Not sure where it's going. Is he trying to spread to me? Would he declare war to do it? You can't spread religion to someone you're at war with, since missionary can't enter their cities - can you? But the direction of missionary's movement doesn't make sense otherwise

In any case, moved most of the stack out of Old Sharlayan just in case - don't want Bing to see it. Could have a funny side effect of Krill thinking I'm going for SD's cities. I say funny, that could well mean Krill wiping me out - but even that might give Commodore and others an opening. Which may be needed - the game has been in a bit of a lull lately. And if I provoke Krill into doing something that creates an opening for a dogpile, at least I will accomplish the goal of doing something relevant in the game

Thanks for confirming smile I'm just struggling to understand the point of this missionary

Eta for attack on Bing - T175 (4 turns from now). 9 elephants, 7 catapults, a couple of axes and spears

I will probably declare 2 turns earlier to get the workboat in and see his defences, also to give a couple turns to give a chance to anyone who doesn't want me to proceed with this attack to send their diplo offers

I don't think anything will come out of it - and even if it does, and even if I take all Bing's cities, I still will be behind Krill in city count. But sitting back and shuffling units around definitely accomplishes nothing

This looks takeable with the stack I prepared - we'll see if Bing has more units ready to reinforce

Last chance for anyone to stop me if they want

Considered going the long way around so that Bing doesn't see my stack until it enters his territory, but don't think it would make enough of a difference, he still gets plenty of heads up as I march through his territory to the city, might as well just brute force it and see if he has the defences
