I guess the choices are road west and hope copper shows up near pig or road east on the assumption it won’t. I don’t think putting the copper toward the foodless north is something the map-maker would or should do, and putting it east when there’s already a bunch of other resources there doesn’t seem likely either. I suppose copper could be southwest?

Copper on an island doesn’t seem sufficiently likely to affect the calculation of what direction our worker should road prior to finishing BW.
We actually can't even road yet.
![]() If we settle East, we need to move to a north-eastern forest to chop, if we settle south, we need to move to a southern forest and if we settle west then we would start pasturing the pig instead. Since the last update, we've settled Antioch and grew it to size 2. We had to pick the location before seeing copper, so that was almost the best tile copper could possibly appear for us. Only SE of the pigs would have been better. We had one forest growth south of the capital that is pure good-stuff. This turn we had another, which unfortunately has knock on effects on my worker plan. Hopefully we can move things around so that it becomes a net positive too. The capital is a monster and will go settler -> settler now before slowing down for some infra: Workboat, Granary, Library. One city goes East for Horse/Wheat, one goes south for Fish/Clam. We found Zulu to our West: Unfortunately there is no obviously good choice for a border city for us, assuming that is his capital. The hill would be lovely but seems like it would be asking for trouble. Not going to make contact, would prefer he doesn't have us on his mind for as long as possible. I also got ahead of myself and put a turn of research into Writing instead of Pottery. 2b lost but we had the time to spare on Pottery at least.
First part of our game is complete.
We're now on a ticking clock to get MC in time to hire an engineer. This looks like it will be quite tight. Given Mjmd's new-found lebensraum, we decided it was important to try compete for the choke point. Hope to settle it T61 with some spears and then see if we can grab anything else. The barb is being annoying but if he suicides here he won't have had much of an effect. The other side of the empire also has barb issues. Here he has at least delayed the horse hook up 1t. The warriors should be enough to defog the entire East if I can get them in position. Third city of Ebla has been a slow starter, all of its resources in the 2nd ring are now finally being hooked up. It was able to steal the fish while the capital was building its granary though, which kept it moving. Now it will complete its own granary before growing to 6 on another of our beautiful libraries. Fourth city of Rhodes is another really strong location, but slow to get going as it waits for the Creative border pop. That looks like a mountain in the sea to the south, which makes me wonder if it is a man-made connection to the other continent. Demos look pretty good for us at this stage. Particularly with no resources hooked at city 3 or 4 and a granary in the cap. Unfortunately would expect Mjmd to start catching up with another one of these uber-capitals. Nauf has recently teched Sailing to lighthouse his lakes, and it looked like he built his first copper unit. Though now that I think of it, Sailing gives some power boost too. I offered OBs, thinking we'll probably have to partner with him vs Zulu and keep the border demilitarised.
Stage 2 complete:
5t to first settled GS. Will get out 2 more GS pretty quickly and also a mixed GP in the cap.
When does your settle vs. academy break even?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
First one will be settled I think and second will go for Academy.
Our capital will be too busy growing, whipping and building big bronze statues to work a pair of scientists itself before the 2nd GS. If it's not working the scientists then settling should come out ahead. Extra hammers are also quite useful on the Colossus build. |
