[SPOILERS] Pindicator digs up the past with Kongo

058

Change of plans, I may want to build warriors now and then upgrade them to Ngoa Mbebas. I think gold cost upgrade formula is Production Diff * 1.5 + 10, which would put me at 115g per Noga Mbeba.

Yuri is absolutely trying to lay early claim to lands in the east, so any settlers will need an escort. And I've now been contacted by Greenline (Arabia) this turn, but I see no unit, so he must have met me and ducked away somewhere. Most likely location is the west of my capital and back since it would be a dead-end. So I finished the 2nd warrior at Behemoth, built the Iron Mine, and I'll be able to upgrade the first in 5 turns and the second 5 turns after that. (I double checked, it is 110 production / 10 iron per Ngoa Mbeba.)

Greenline is at 133 power, which makes sense with being the other neighbor to the still unmet Aztecs. I'm not too concerned about them; I just want enough military to push Yuri away from my settling goals while also not being stabbed from the west.

Turn 061

I guess we don't get any kind of countdown warning in MP? I was 2 turns away from upgrading my warrior and qualifying for a golden age... cry

I picked Monumentality since I want to be building more districts.

Chopped out the Ancestral Hall and it will finish end of turn:

Cost is 150g to upgrade, which means the formula is 2 * prod difference + 10g. Still, it's 2 turns away. Only now I'm not sure I want to spend the money since there's no longer a golden age attached. I might just swap Policy Cards next turn to +50% Melee & Ranged production and build 1 Ngao & 2 archers after this turn. Then settlers from the capital non-stop.

Tech is going to be Archery > HBR > Apprenticeship.

Met Arabia in the far west.

And took a look at Great People. I think I'm the only one building districts...

Edit: Oh, I could also finish the monument (5 turns) up in Surfcaster instead of building the Market. But I'm switching it to an archer next turn either way.

Edit 2: I get a gov title don't I? I want to either put it into Moksha or Liang then.

Turn 062

Ancestral Hall is built and we have our first Great Relic!

Or more importantly, our first great relic yeilds!

With Drama and Archery done, it was time to change policies:

And our builds:

4 turns apiece for a pair of archers and a settler. I suppose if I'm really trying to push the econ envelope then I would just continue building infra, but I am the low man on the power chart once Russia goes, and I want a little bit of defense now. I might even go for Masonry next, after HBR, and build some walls.

For my governor title I was debating between Liang and Moksha. Realizing that most of my new builders are going to be coming from settled cities pre-feudalism, that made Liang less appealing. So Moksha is up at Surfcaster, giving a +15% boost to the natural wonder culture there.

Lastly I have a single builder charge left on my last builder. I'm not sure what to do with him - farm the rice for the Irrigation boost? Seems a waste since the tile will be paved under later on. Putting down a random mine isn't really great. Guess I could improve a sheep or a cow for +1 hammers. Or harvest the jungle at Behemoth where the theatre is going to go.

Horseback Riding has finished and the settler from Aristocrat is out!

4 turns to settle whisperer. New settler started at the capital, a 5-turn build.

Yuri has put down his 4th city already, reaching for me. Made me wonder if I should pump out horsemen and try to snipe it? It could be a winning line to conquer everything in the east and keep Archduke to the west of those mountains. For one, greenline is at least building up defenses to oppose him. I did finally meet Archduke's Aztecs last turn:

255 is 3-times my power ... but it's unlikely he goes for me as he hasn't found me yet. Also, he's still dealing with Russia and probably worried about greenline as well.

Still, I chopped the rainforest at Behemoth where its theater is due to go, and decided to finish the Commercial Hub there. Set tech to Irrigation; I think I'll pick up a few of the missed cheaper techs like Sailing and Masonry, then go on to Apprenticeship for +1 to mines and IZs.

Lastly, I have an envoy and I'm tempted to put him into a military civ right away for another +1 base production in the capital:

Hattusa's quest is to get the Eureka for Engineering (build walls), and Mogadishu's is to get a Great Writer (building a Theater at Surfcaster shortly), so I'm not quite as inclined to get quick sovereignty over a city-state.

Settled whisperer, next settler is 2 turns out and will take Polytheist.

And I'm sorry Yuri, but that is one city too far. You have settled in a line towards me now and that city is almost 20 tiles rom your capital.

Mil Tradition set as my Civic - in 3 turns I switch to +50% Light Cav production and start 3 horsemen. Probably will upgrade my other warrior.

If Maracaibo is 20 tiles from his capital and 9 from yours, that is a Pink Dot. Since you already have access to your UU war seems inevitable. With your gold-based economy some more warriors to upgrade later while you have Agoge is also a good idea (they are upkeep free so can serve as military police with Retainers if you do not upgrade them).

Won't matter. Once again the snowball civ is going to just win the game

Turn 080

It's that time of year again. Days get shorter and the S.A.D. starts kicking in. Sorry that means fewer updates, though there's always something at the back of my mind telling me I need to be keeping the habit with these things.

Oh yeah, and then the Final Fantasy Tactics remake came out today. I've been waiting for them to remake this for 10 years at least. And so today I battled through all of Chapter 1 and

... and beat that poumpus ass Argath into a pulp at Fort Zeikdan.

More accurately is my Time Mage just rained ice down on him after i picked off all the other units, my archer raining down arrows from on high and Ramza hiding behind Tietra's corpse (RIP Tietra cry ).

I haven't wanted to grind anything out, just playing through the game again for the first time in forever. Tactician isn't really all that more difficult, I just do less damage than normal. The AI is still just as easy to manipulate.

But as for the game that matters here, I've lost all hope. Every time I play Civ6 MP here the game appears over before t50 and I rather hate that. Have we all congratulated Archduke on his victory yet? Yuri sure is, because Yuri settling up on me means I am now stuck between two bad choices.

Choice 1 was my immediate thought: just rush Yuri and punish him for his pink dots. But then I dismissed that for a couple reasons. One, it hobbles me right as I'm getting into the prime of what I've set myself up to do: just pump out settlers from the capital. I've settled Whisperer and Bog Shaman in the past 10 turns, and have 2 more settlers en route for Polytheist and Scavenger (or maybe Wildspeaker/Gambler if I don't want to antagonize Yuri directly, but screw that).

And if I attack Yuri then I give Archduke a green light to just take out greenline. Yet if I have send help to greenline in the form of attacking Archduke then I give Yuri a free pass for pink dotting me so.

Perhaps I should try to push west through the mountains while it is still possible?

In any way, I only see losing choices. So I'm just continuing with the original plan and maybe I can give myself an economic advantage down the line.

Now I need to update the EU4 thread...

Yeah, my very first post in the lurker thread (note date):

But in theory, isn't BBG supposed to discourage rushing somehow? All the civ league multiplayer guys in the Youtube videos are always getting into modern ages, even though they fight wars with each other. Supposedly you can develop economy faster than the other guy can rush? Why is that not working out here?

BBGM doesn't discourage rushing, online speed does.
