Civilization 7 is in development

Agreed that Civ6's music is FANTASTIC, I listen to it all the time in the background when I'm working. You can hear how the music builds on itself over time even better when listening to the soundtrack in succession; I think America has my favorite tune which is conveniently the first in alphabetical order as well:

The irony is that this better illustrated the whole Civ7 concept of "history is built in layers" than anything actually present in Civ7. crazyeye

I could be wrong, but I don't think the country themes from Civ6 were Christopher Tin for the most part -- I think they were mostly Geoff Knorr.

Agreed with everything else though. Some of the more bombastic Civ6 themes are really fantastic as you get to modern eras; here's Vietnam, Sweden and Canada (there are many others!). In game, you really feel the progression as you move through the eras -- you get a little bit more orchestra and a little bit more complexity as you move through. It really makes the experience something quite special; I remember being blown away by it.

You're right, and I was mistaken. Tin just composed the title track Sogno di Volare; Knorr orchestrated the vast majority.

I do the same during my study halls & when my students are independently working - I'll cycle through lots of RPG and strategy soundtracks, but VI is probably my favorite (alongside the Witcher 3 soundtrack).

If America has your favorite theme, I certainly hope you've seen this cover of Hard Times:

I never elaborated as much as I liked in my original Civ 6 pbem thread because I was frustrated with the loyalty mechanics, but I'll chime in to say I also adore the direction Civ VI went with the soundtrack. I love old folk tunes and I think Knorr did a great job at gradually making them bombastic and dramatic

I do quite like some of the tunes in civ 7, but I ended up turning them off because they repeat so often (had the same issue with civ 5, and I think it's a major part of why I soured on both games in the end, immersion is very important to me when it comes to games and soundscape is a major part of that).

I imagine doing multiple themes for a civ you play only a few dozen turns is too expensive. But that is not the only solution: civ 4 has a soundtrack by era, mostly soft classical pieces, and it's great. And they don't even really fit the era (Misere Mei is actually Renaissance, but I still get chills when the Medieval Era message pops up and it starts playing, so good!), but they fit a vibe. Most classical pieces have royalty free versions, why not mix some in so I don't hear the Meji Japan theme start for the third time this Modern Era...

One thing I also loved is that the civ 6 soundtrack starts mixing in the theme of a rival when they are stronger (at Deity I mostly hear other civs' theme and it makes the late game feel way more intense than it really is, the AI being as useless as it is)

Maybe I am biased.

But I had to google what the heck Sillla and Qajar is.

And I know my history.

Civilization 7 was really meant for some other audience.

Where are the civs I give a damn about.

It’s certainly true that Harriet Tubman of the Silla doesn’t inspire the soul in quite the way Julius Caesar of the Romans does.

I did enjoy finding out about Mansa Musa via Civ IV, and Mohendro-daro via Civ VI, but the barrel does seem to have been scraped.

I knew what Silla was, but then again I used to live there, so

Yesterday when I started my Civ7 stream, Twitch had 400+ people watching Civ6, 300+ people watching Civ5... and 1 viewer watching Civ7. I've never seen anything like it before, Civ7 simply has no following online.
