Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] New setting, same RNG. yuris125, Civ6 PBEM26

Yeah I see the meme, I was referring to the image in post #75

I really should just get a basic VPN to be able to change the country while this problem is happening (and there's a possiblity of other companies doing something similar with our silly Online Safety act)

Pindicator's grievances towards me decay at 9/turn, so looks like 50 grievances fully expire in 6 turns. Indeed, next to no impact

Walls at Hattusa are about half broken, and with plenty of farms around it which I can pillage for health, I don't anticipate issues even with walls. Just will go a little slower

Question. Hattusa has a trader inside the city. Would taking it capture this trader for me? Does the answer change depending on whether or not I have a free trade route slot?

Traders are never captured, only destroyed.

tyty!

No reason to delay the capture then, I got the first promotion on all horsemen

I didn't get a chance to pillage the campus, which may have been a mistake, missed out on a few beakers there. But then again, the city will require a fair bit of repairs and redevelopment now, and having it contributing beakers while rebuilding the damaged buildings is not the worst thing

One more noticeable thing in this screenshot, Archduke is in anarchy. Anarchy in Civ6 only happens if you're switching to a government you already ran and switched out of. Looks like he's going back to Oligarchy and starting another military campaign soon?

I am going to position the scout around Geneva, I tried poking around Pindicator's territory, but there's no way through to his west. Keeping an eye on Archduke is the most reasonable thing it can do now

Unless the mod changed the tile picker, it will claim all 2nd ring tiles (even the duds) before moving on to the 3rd ring.

Etemenanki completed

Getting a few extra hammers right away, and also ahead of Pindicator in science rate for the first time ever

Also pictured - cocoa tile is now in my borders, used great merchant on it. The other two tiles are going to be in the east

The iron at Bogota (since apparently the tile picker will never pick it) and the stone at Cuenca (for chopping into Coliseum, and potentially for the Coliseum itself - keeping this for last, don't want to spend GM charge on it if Archduke or someone builds Coliseum before I can even try)

Apprenticeship coming in next turn, and I will need to lock costs of industrial districts before Feudalism pushes it a bit higher. I'm aware there's an obscure mechanic which halves district costs in some cases, so locking costs can be counterproductive if I want to take advantage of it - but my understanding of how it works is very weak. I think I would have to have at least one every buildable district to activate it? and I have no way to fit an encampment in the queues at this point? Anyway, easier to just lock the costs and not worry about it

Will start prebuilding builders across the empire shortly. Not everywhere, I still have cities with too low production, and Bogota will keep building settlers and taking free builders from Ancestral Hall. I want to settle the square pin next, it is the most remote location I'm planning to settle at the moment (9 turns from Bogota!), so I can spend the time remaining until Feudalism is researched to move the settler, and get that free builder with Serfdom already in effect

Research-wise, I will need to pick up Masonry at some point soon to unlock stone chopping, but other than that thinking Stirrups is the next move, it is boosted by Feudalism and unlocks a stronger unit to make sure. After that mostly stick to the bottom of the tree, with the ultimate goal being MilSci and Llaneros - although I will probably need to at least pick up Education at some point

For culture, it's straight to Medieval Faires and plantations after Feudalism, no concrete plan after that yet

Eventful turn. Archduke declared war on Greenline. This was to be expected, as Aztec he has to be aggressive, him eating anarchy to return to Oligarchy suggested war was imminent, I didn't see him approaching my borders, and Pindicator's lack of power growth meant he wasn't concerned either. I still have no contact with Greenline, so not sure what exactly his position is, but his score is the lowest. Hopefully he does offer resistance

Pindicator meanwhile settled a relatively aggressive city (but not in a spot I was going to contest), and then re-offered friendship

I was in two minds about it. My earlier offer of friendship with Pindicator was so that he wouldn't have to worry about me and could have strong defences on the border with Archduke. Now that Archduke revealed his intentions, that's less relevant. Friendship strongly benefits Pindicator now, as he can improve land around the new city without worrying about me sniping his builders

On the other hand, I am planning to settle my own city in the region shortly, and also wouldn't want to worry about defending builders. I don't think Pindicator is in a position to contest any of my planned settlements, and I have no plans to attack him in the next 30 turns. And if Archduke is about to gain land from another civ, we should take this opportunity to develop our own land in peace

All in all, it wasn't a straightforward choice, and I did peek at the new city first, but in the end I thought there were enough pros to take it. Wish I took a chance to send a scout past Pindicator's land earlier, before his borders blocked me off, and knew how much backline land he has

A few boring turns, as I'm finishing Feudalism and preparing for the big chopping

Geneva expanded borders in such a way that I can no longer get to Archduke's land, unless I research Shipbuilding or sign open borders with Pindicator. Not sure I'm prepared to offer the latter, and naval techs are still not a priority at all (I will pick up Sailing to improve whales, but wasn't planning to go further than that for now)

Not a lot of updates lately, as I've haven't been doing much noteworthy, just getting builders, chopping, putting down districts, etc. Seriously need to impove the income, so that I can buy the buildings in those districts

Since the last update, I settled two cities

With Barinas, I actually got era score for "aggressive settlement", although it was anything but - but close enough to Pindicator's city to get that point. Not complaining of course. City got early pop points by chopping a wheat, and I think I will chop the other wheat too and put down an industrial zone there - eventually it will get +2h from mine adjacency

Loja will be much slower to start, and is actually not that great of a city, but I needed to settle it now just for the free builder to chop into the Coliseum and improve Cuenca's tiles

Next two settlers will be for cities in the gap between Bogota and Quito, as I need iron and generally not a fan of the gap between two parts of my empire

I probably will keep Stirrups one turn from completion until I get 20 irons and can start building a knight. I do want a knight asap to increase city strength, but Archduke is still busy with Greenline, and I have DoF with Pindicator. Archduke's power remains concerning, but I expect there's no immediate danger. Instead I'm going to go for Engineeering as immediate next target, I need an aqueduct in Hattusa for sure, and other cities are starting to run into housing problems as well - although they will be somewhat solved just by improving tiles, as each improvement gives 0.5 housing

Avoiding dark age wasn't too much of a problem in the end, golden age wasn't too far off (only 10 points between normal age and golden age requirements), but I won't get it. I'm fine with normal age and sticking with Monumentality dedication into medieval age though, there's still plenty of districts to be placed. But I will be trying for golden age next era if I can

Coming to realisation that I should be planning district placement as I choose city spots, not making it up as I go along. But I'll do my best to make it work this game

T100 came and went, I will delay an update until I know if I'm getting the Coliseum (should be a turn or two)
