-5 gpt at 0% doesn't sound too bad. If you can finish or get out of the war that should improve quickly.

What eco techs do you have access to?

I haven't researched a tech since I picked up Machinery with Oracle crazyeye Part of the reason is that I immediately settled a few cities so my costs increased, then Gav's island snipe put me into 0-to-negative gpt. Here's my tech tree  mischief

City maintenance right now is the single biggest expense at 45 gpt. Civic maintenance is 25 gpt. Unit maintenance is 20 gpt. Unit supply is 6gpt so I could get back in the green by moving my stack home. My GGeneral was in range of Gav's capital this turn, but it had a freshly completed axe inside in addition to the warrior. I'm holding out one more turn at a shot to raze Gav's capital next turn if he leaves it exposed with just a warrior defending. If his capital is covered then I'll probably retreat back into my culture with everything except my Woodsman II axe/spear pair to hold the forest.

Regarding my eco tech options:
• Writing does not give OB in RtR (OB comes at Alphabet) and Libraries are useless as 0% science slider so Writing is only useful as a prerequisite to something else
• Currency could give 22 gpt from 2c trade routes if I get there through Alphabet. But that is 1100 beakers away.
• Courthouses could get me 22 gpt at the cost of 700 beakers ... and 1200 hammers, ouch!

Growth is my biggest means of fixing the economy. I'm sitting at the happy cap everywhere so each happy face in a city is worth 3c from working a FIN coast tile. This has me looking towards Monarchy for HR. I have a GProphet from Oracle coming in about 25 turns. Ideally I would like to reach Feudalism by the end of the GA in order to swap into Serfdom permanently. This will boost production significantly and open up Scientist and Merchant specialists spots which can help with a trade mission and/or bulb.

No Writing is harsh.

But what benefit is Writing to me right now? The only thing it holds is the Library which is an expensive building for small gains. Really unless you want to run scientists for an early Great Person the Library is an unprofitable building until all of the land is filled up and cities and cottages grow ... unless you are CREative and get a big discount.

So being down writing only hurts the cost of the beakers as prerequisite to the techs that it unlocks.

I was going to ask about Operation Persepolis until that last post. Glad to hear it's still in the works. It's been a lot of fun reading about your (well-reported) defense, I'm rooting for you! popcorn

My point was that you have a long way to Currency if you do not even have writing.

Ah, yes. But the good new is that my income in now positive since I moved my stack back into my territory. Unfortunately Operation Persepolis was thwarted again by either a new immortal or one moving down from a northern city. I offered Gavagai a peace treaty. I also sank the remaining galley in my northern sea. Another decision I’m happy about is choosing to build a trireme to sink Gav’s galley before building my own galley.

Yikes, Pindicator’s power is skyrocketing. He sent a first wave of HA to capture the barb city to my north, but my trireme spotted a follow-up stack behind moving in the same direction ... and my city is on the other side. But Gav accepted my peace offer so I’m safe in that direction for 10 turns. I offered fish-fish and put enough hammer into spears everywhere to emergency whip next turn if needed. I hope it’s not needed. But he’s whipping heavily so he definitely intends war, and that follow-up stack is clearly headed in my direction.

Pindicator offered back crabs for my war vs. TBS. I sent back crabs for Pindicator's war vs. TBS. Not sure exactly how this will play out, but I certainly would prefer Aztec HA's riding over TBS's border than mine, so whatever I can do to encourage that via diplomacy or spiky borders I want to do. I'm even willing to commit my GGeneral to a 5-move galley on the TBS sea in order to raze a core city. I'm moving things in that direction now.

I wish there was a way to temporarily turn of signs for an overview screenshot rant The biggest takeaway from the empire overview is that there is a lot of growth that needs to be done to recover from my AGGressive (lol) whipping. The settler in production is for the northwest peninsula. I have a workboat ready to connect the ... clams? crabs? I want to get a couple workers up there to hook cows quick and chop a granary. To renewed hope! toast

Yes, I agree that a way to hide signs without removing them would be most useful.
