Turn 55

We have Colossus! Cornflakes will either be devastated or delighted with the failgold.

We thought long and hard about whipping two pop to get the wonder a turn quicker. If we lost out by one turn to CF (who's had Metal Casting a few turns longer than us) we'd get about 220 failgold, which isn't to be sniffed at, but with 5 water tiles worked this turn and about 16 in 15 turns we think it'll take 20-25 turns for Colossus to pay that back. The options to spend the cash aren't awesome - Currency is only worth 11-12 gpt as we don't have a second island city, Calendar is only really useful if the second great person (from the capital) is an engineer, and the Aesthetics line is good, but getting any of that stuff 10 turns earlier won't give the return that Colossus does.

The whipped pop are costly as well, but probably get paid off by Colossus in another 5 turns (perhaps). How would you guys value that?

Demos and graphs. Now with Cornflakes' included (somewhat unfairly turn order means he won't see ours for two more turns alright ).

FWIW; I think I'd pulled the whip in that situation as well.

We harass TBS, killing a work boat and threatening a coastal city. All of this is totally justified by the wanton murder of our scout a thousand years ago . Probably. He's well prepared so I offered peace.

We're three more turns from the engineer who will build the Pyramids. We're holding off completing Masonry until the last moment as someone else may surprise us and grab them.

Demos and power. Pindicator has already built at least one sacrificial altar. We have 80/60 EPs with him, 44/44 with TBS and CF and 40/0 with Gav. We could put ours onto Pindi in anticipation of the tsunami of EPs he'll generate, or we could put them on TBS as we're at war, or we could put them on Gav to get tech visibility and plot an invasion.

Id put TBS>Pindi>Gav>CF as the "who to put EP's into first"

TBS signed peace. Does that change your calculation at all SD? Can I persuade you that our best chance to win this game is to take land from the weakest player, who so far seems to be Gav, so getting intel on him might be most useful. Especially as he might let us get it cheap, while TBS and Pindi will make life as difficult as possible.

Should our boat go bother Gav next? Given how his power ratio with us just turned red this might not be a good idea... And if we do want to hit him eventually I don't want his eyes turned our direction just yet.

Demos and power. Can I still blame running specialists for the slipping performance on MFG and food? That might get a whole lot worse if we land the 'Mids. And we're lagging on power again...

We decided against making an enemy-for-life and will send the warrior back home to MP duty. The galley will patrol to make sure no-one wants to take a shot at us in return.

A little micro nugget: By working fur over pig this turn and avoiding growth next turn we get two extra food for one fewer hammer thanks to the odd way granaries work. crazyeye

Killer Croc is our 11th city and puts costs up by 10gpt. yikes This model is entirely Young Harry's work. smile

TBS has bowmen loitering and trying to keep an eye on us. Hopefully he'll get complacent and let us hit his sheep city from the fog at some point.

With our delightful new pointy toys we revolted to Representation on turn 61. So far we're only working one or two specialists, but the extra happy is already useful and we're going to up the specialist count over the coming turns.

I thought I was being very clever with avoid growth and a granary in Iced Solo, but something went wrong and we have the amount of food that we'd have if we hadn't built the granary at all. I hope the revolt screwed it up, otherwise it's my own dumb fault somehow.

I did log in and panic over the power graph last turn, so we're whipping a few more axes and spears than we would in a less hemmed-in-on-all-sides game. The CF-Gav war is the main reason for the high power all around. So far Gavagai took one city from Cornflakes, then CF took two from Gav. CF doesn't have iron yet, so he's not using crossbows, just playing well.

We exchanged incomprehensible messages with Pindi. Ours was we'd give him fish for him fighting Gav, his was his crab for us fighting Gav. Gav has about 50% more power than we do, so I don't know how we'd manage to attack him. Is there anything else Pindi could be suggesting? Unfortunately his early cheap courthouses mean we'll lose graphs on him next turn. Hopefully he'll stop when he gets tech visibility.

I followed SD's advice on putting our EPs on TBS, but he's returning the favour so it'll be a while before we see his research.

Researching Writing reveals that only one other player has Maths. You can also see that someone has Horseback Riding. It could be any of CF, Gav or Pindicator, but Pindi got a 12 point tech t60 (I noticed it t61 but I'm not sure that I'd been checking thoroughly before), so it seems likely that it's him. I'd guess that TBS has gone for Maths and will land a 12-city Hanging Gardens soon.

Demos and power. Our GNP is back! 20% break-even isn't awesome, but it's way better than 0%.
