burning down the amazon rainforest, speedrun by greenline

my thinking going into this was:
soothsayers are bought with faith. primodial map script has tons of rainforest. boost holy sites with rainforests + sacred path, set jungles on fire for more food + cogs, profit? i settled (perhaps foolishly) in place on the coast. met a barb clan, who i can pay 90 gold to not spawn units (as if!). waiting for a volcano near my capital to explode and give me high yield tiles   Went builder first for the sheep. Built a mine and farm as well with the other two charges to boost craftmanship. Second city founded. Not sure if I want another settler pre early empire or to build the holy sites first. Appreciate the military city state for boosting early development. (Yes I know the volcano is going to blow up that wheat farm... but I wanted the irrigation boost. Lots of bananas!)  Krill is my neighbor to the west. No sign of Archduke yet, who has annexed a city state with the eagle warrior squad. I will attack my own militaristic city state at some point, the suzerain bonus is garbage. One +6 holy site built, another +10 one under construction. Choral music will be the belief pick, but the real benefit is the faith income for soothsayers. Settler heading south to fertile volcanic soil. Haven't done a lot of district pinning, as I have no idea what tiles will be blown up by volcanoes or sunk, so I'm kind of playing it by ear.

 Southern volcano blew up again, giving me some very nice tiles for city 3 to work. Holy site will go near the dead sea or whatever that natural wonder is in due time. Last builder charge either goes towards boosting wheel or hooking up a seafood / banana for Alajuela - probably need the housing there a bit more than wheel. Dumping cogs in shrines right now, but capital will work on the plaza when it grows to size 4.  first naturally occurring forest fire. sadly the tiles affected are either volcano bait or a forest that i was going to chop for a campus, but it's better than nothing. Going with the double pingala (culture / pop) -> double magnus. going to chop the jungle around the volcano into plaza with the magnus boost, should be a fast opener. need to lock in a district at city 3, but the gold I have for tiles is limited right now. Also need a campus.

 I thought founding a city one tile away from a volcano meant it was safe, but a "megacollosal" eruption nuked the two jungles and killed 2 pop a turn before I could start chopping. At least the builder survived. I have some other jungle I can chop to regrow pop, but man, what a pain. |
