RB PBEM #1 - Public Players Thread

Well most of you know by now that I've met everybody in-game, so I thought that this thread could be started for public posting ... although I'm the only one who can post here at the moment, I guess.

You are cordially invited to attend a sumptuous party at the official residence of Dreylin II in Istanbul.

A dinner of roast Pork will be followed by a tour of the Imperial Gardens.

Attire: Primitive Casual

Weapons to be checked at the door.

Arggghhh my scout wanted so much to attend your party but he's about to get eaten by a bear with the doorstep in sight duh

Save some some hog roast for my next attendee would you?

I've got a couple on the way but don't be alarmed by the one holding the big club. He's actually quite a pussy cat.

I have a scout that just picked up a hut (haha - you guys missed it) that is in need of some medical attention. I'll try and shepard him down to the party.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Greetings All. I would like to propose a 5-way tech deal with the following techs.

Alphabet - 265 beakers
Mathematics - 221
Aesth - 265
Monarchy - 265
HBR - 221

Sooooo has expressed interest in teching Alphabet.
I have expressed an interest in researching Mathematics and I can throw in Fishing or Myst to bring the beakers close to 265.

Any other takers?

Hey - we have a new BtS patch ... v3.19. PBEM and patches cause a bit of a head ache. I'll dig up the procedures for patching and paste them here. Obviously, we all patch of none of us do ... or you run duel installs for a while.

Here are the instructions for patching a PBEM game.

DogBoy Wrote:We need to upgrade the game. The administrator has to do it. A friend of mine sent me this e-mail.

This means that I have to be the one to update the game by first loading it using the previous version, removing the admin password, saving the game, reloading the game with the new version, resetting the admin password, and then playing my turn. While this is a hassle, it is a much better option than remaining on the previous version. Hence, we will be updating these games to their new versions - but please retain a copy of the previous version of Civilization IV and Civilization IV - Warlords (if applicable) to that you may continue to play turns in those of my games that have not yet been updated.

This means that whoever started the game needs to be the first one to upgrade it. As soon as the game administrator upgrades it you need to let the rest of us know so we can play this game with the new save. Unfortunately, that means you may have to play with two versions of the game until all your PBEMs are upgraded. That's a simple process. All you have to do is copy the entire Civ4 folder. Rename your new Civ4 folder to whatever you want (such as Civ4 Old Version). Then patch your current Civ4 game to the new version. Then just play whatever game you are playing with whatever patch the game is on until all your games are played using the current version. As soon as that happens, you can delete your "Civ4 Old Version" folder.

Here are the instructions for a duel install (obviously these are old and you should replace v1.61 with suitably current numbers)...

dutchfire at CFC Wrote:Instructions for a dual-install (shamelessly stolen from the HOF sub-forum smile)

1. Copy "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" in Program Files/Firaxis Games, to "Sid Meier's Civilization IV v1.61".

2. Rename "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" in My Documents/My Games, to "Sid Meier's Civilization IV v1.61".

3. Install the BtS (or patch).

4. Run from one directory or the other to get the version you want.

You'll also be able to install mods separately for the two versions, save games will be separate for the two versions, etc. The new version will have a clean install with no mods, which is probably what you want (since many old mods won't work).

To make Step 4 easier, I would create a shortcut to "Civ IV v1.61" and another to "Civ IV v1.74" and stick them on your desk top (or where-ever).
