That is my PBEM 10 Thread. If you are a player of PBEM10, do not read on. You have your own thread.
I guess that should be enough space that nobody will accidentally read something.

So, I am playing Qin of Russia.
Qin: Ind/Pro
Ind will give +50% wonder production and double production speed for forges. If I can get my hands on metal casting, I will be able to up my production without too much costs, thats nice. I maybe will also be able to use the faster wonder production. Depending on the map I might be able to go for more or less wonders, will have to see.
Pro gives City Garrison 1 and Drill 1 for Archery and Gunpowder units. Defense should be suffcient, especially if I get can a quick Feudalism. It also gives double production speed for Walls and Castles. That also is only worthwhile for Defenses (especially the walls) but depending on my settling it might come in handy.
Russia: Mining, Hunting, Research Institute, Cossack
Mining and Hunting are not my favorite starting techs. Though maybe I am lucky and we will have again ivory, deer or furs nearby and make it worthwhile. The scout will help to find others quickly, though I will not have the possibilities as with a warrior to attack if somebody is undefended. I will have to produce a warrior rather sooner then later but with Hunting and being Pro I probably go for quick Archers anyway. Maybe even before Bronze Working, but the starting area would have to consist of nearly no forests and have enough unforested hills to make that a possible decision. Lets see.
The Research Institute is not bad with getting 2 free scientists - it is only too late. When you are able to build it, there should not be that much to research left anyway.
The Cossack on the other hand was basically the reason for my choice of Russia. It also comes late but not that late and at a time where many wars happen anyway. It will have a 50% increase in strenght against mounted units and therefore might have its uses in MP-warfare. We'll see if I am wrong with that.

So, whom else do we have?
Cyneheard: Cyrus of Carthage
meatbalz: Boudica of Arabia
ad hoc: Gilgamesh of Greece
Tatan: Napoleon of the Netherlands
Twinkletoes/Ilios: Genghis Khan of Sumeria
Cyrus is one of the leaders which I was certain would be picked. Cha/Imp means quick expansion and a higher happy cap. For Noble it might be sufficient without Monarchy probably (I have no clue how much happy you start with on Noble).
Carthage brings Numidian Cavalry, replacement for HAs and the Cothon, a replacement for the Harbor. The Numidian does have +50% against Melee but only 5 strenght. Against a fortified pro archer that means he attacks with 5 against at least 3+50% city defense, 25% fortify, 20% garrison city defense. So basically 3 +95% = 5,85. So the archer will be stronger. Well and the spear will also have 8 against the 7.5 from the Numidian. So nice, but I am not freightend of that.
The Cothon only gets you one more trade route. Helpful maybe, I have not played around that much with trade routes, so I am not sure how much it helps. Certainly nothing if we have a map without much water. And if it has much water ... well then I am at least happy that it is the Cothon I am playing against and not the Trading Post

Actually 6 on Settler and 5 on Chieftain. Not that anybody around here has any business playing on Chieftain.

But am I really able to see some other tiles far away in the west as indicated by the minimap?

Ok, I think after getting the game, that I really should see those tiles. Foodplains and a happiness resource. Probably in the middle of us 6. And whoever expands fast gets it, but is also vulnerable to attacks. At least that is what I think.
In other news, I have not settled but instead moved to the plains hill 2S of my start. Not sure that was the best decision. I will have more hammers, but I am 1 off the coast, I give up the hunting resource for now (well, I will get there with the 2nd city quickly) and I will not be able to improve the fish I have before I get a third city a the coast.
But I need AH first (I think 3 pigs, a sheep already visible) and therefore would not have had time to improve the fish anyway. The question now is only: Do I get Agri, AH first or do I get Agri (I have a wet plains corn in my BFC now) and then BW? I do not have many trees there, so probably Agri, AH, building a worker, maybe two, getting to size 4, chopping the forest into a settler and get the second city up.

Ok, game is finally going on.
I have decided to build a worker first (no way, really?! Yeah, totally unexpected I know) and research Agri. At least the worker will be finished quickly in 8 turns instead of the ten everyone who did not settle on a PH will need.
I am not tracking Demos for this game and probably will also not put that much thought into micro stuff. Just playing and seeing what happens.
