*moved*So, I've picked Huayna Capac as my leader. FIN suits my typically cottage heavy gamestyle, and IND for cheap forges and wonders could be very powerful.
I haven't decided on my civ yet, but I'm leaning towards the Mayans or Koreans mostly to make a quick play at Stonehenge. This of course depends on what the others pick though. Possible alternatives are China, Ethiopia, Khmer or Mali, all of which start with Mining, and all but Mali have the option of starting AH from turn 0. In my experience, the starting techs (and traits) are generally more important than the UUs and UBs, so that's mainly what I'm planning on basing my civ choice off.*/moved*
Thanks, so do I!
If what I've read the civs/leaders to be is right, I'll be taking the Mayans.

Ok, so we've got the following to contend with, in order of what I believe to be worst to best.
Quote: Izzy of Ottomans
Hammam is nice to have, but not a game breaker. Janissary is an ok UU, but Gunpowder is difficult to get early enough to really make it count. Spiritual is very nice, especially in a slow, methodical game like a PBEM. Exp is good, but IMO it's better when combined with a proper economy boosting trait, which SPI isn't. Looks like the weakest picks to me.
Quote:Liz of Egypt
War Chariots are always dangerous. Very good starting techs for a chariot rush as well. Liz is a very good leader for generating science, but doesn't have much versatility. Overall, a decent pick, but nothing special.
Quote: Hatty of India
Fast Workers are extremely good, and I suspect the reason why they picked India rather than starting techs. And with Hatty being CRE, I shouldn't have much competition for 'Henge. It'll be interesting to see if they go for an early religion.
Quote: William of China
Surely picked China for the starting techs. Chokunus are pretty average, and the Pavilion isn't much of an improvement over the regular theatre unless going for a culture victory (unlikely in MP). But Agri and Mining are two key techs to start with, opening up instant BW or AH. Willem is a leader I rate very highly, FIN and CRE being the two traits I personally rate highest. Cheap Libraries are very handy, and the ability to work the BFC before whipping a monument is amazing. And nothing really needs to be said about FIN.
Hopefully the start makes things reasonably simple to target early Henge. First tech will almost certainly be Bronze, then probably Agriculture. Will have to wait to see the start though.

Quote:3.) Boats are important. So are defenses. Don't get removed from the game on T10.
I don't particularly like the sound of that for my intended Stonehenge gambit.

Well, I'm definitely the Mayans now. Coloured the same brown as Mali though, so I'll probably confuse myself at some point.

Do you have the right starting techs?
Good luck!

Yep, right starting techs and according to the tech tree right UU, so it appears to be that just the colour is wrong.
