Another set of observations on modding: where do hero special powers come from? I'm guessing modders know how to set them, but I haven't seen it documented, so here's what I know so far:
The chart for hero abilities starts at 0x027AE0 in magic.exe, and consists of 0x12 byte structures, laid out as follows: - 0x00: number of random picks.
- 0x02: type of random picks (0: fighter, 1: mage, 2: both).
- 0x04-0x07: base hero abilities (same format as save file).
- 0x08: base casting skill (same format as save file).
- 0x0a, 0x0c, 0x0e, 0x10: spell codes (same as save file, but note the spacing here).
- 0x01, 0x03, 0x09, 0x0b, 0x0d, 0x0f, 0x11: always 0 (probably MSB for prior).

It is not completely clear, for me. 
I've found the same information about byte 0x02 (type of random picks 0: fighter, 1: mage, 2: both), but Alorra and Thorin could get Arcane Power in vanilla version, bug fixed in Insecticide Patch, so somewhere the single ability can be switched on/off. 
Can you report here the infos about "same as file save"?
P.S. Probably in the last line you mean:
0x0 1, 0x0 3, 0x09, 0x0b, 0x0d, 0x0f, 0x11: always 0 (probably MSB for prior).

Can you tell me what are the fighter versus the mage skills?
I.E. Noble is Fighter or Mage?

fighter-mage hero can have everything.

Not exactly. The list is: - Both: Charmed, Luck, Noble.
- Fighter: Agility, Arms Master, Blade Master, Constitution, Leadership, Legendary, Might.
- Mage: Arcane Power, Prayer Master, Sage, +2.5 magic per level.
Note that that's only for randoms, it's perfectly possible for fixed abilities to ignore this; a number of heroes have fighter abilities and magic points, and Roland has prayermaster despite an utter lack of magic abilities.

Can we mod the list where the skill belong?
I.E. I would like to have Prayer Master to the Both list, instead of the Mage list. Can be done?

Where can i find the three lists (or there is a tristate flag for every skill where can I put W,M or B)?

Bit of trivia I just figured out: in the hero save structure, byte 5 sometimes has bit 0x40 set; this bit is not described in Eljay's files. I just figured out what it is: it indicates a female hero.
