Imperium One - Off to a Flying Start - Info Thread

The RB tournament for Master of Orion will open on April 5. The first game will run for three weeks. Visit the Imperium One Thread at Realms Beyond Orion for more details about the inaugural game.

Interested players should review the tournament rules. Epics veterans from RBCiv will find a familiar structure with only a couple of particulars to note. Players new to RB strategy game tournament play will find the rules fairly straightforward and trim. There is not much you will have to remember.

I am setting up references at Sirian's Master of Orion Page to help new players obtain the game, install it, and learn how to play. I already have a tutorial written to walk through a game and show how things are done as well as touch on opening strategy. There are also several game reports available to help you learn more about the game.

However, I cannot anticipate all possibilities, so if you have any questions about getting MOO to run, about the tournament rules, or anything else that might cause you to hesitate or give you a problem, here is a good place to ask questions. Any question goes. I will do my best to answer. We are also open to suggestions or concerns, if you have any.

We would also appreciate statements from interested players declaring their intent to play. This is not required, there are no signups for our tournment events, with occasional exceptions for special scenarios. You are under no obligation to play or report if you do claim interest, and you may play, with or without a report, without speaking up. A healthy show of participation may help generate more interest, though.

Thanks for tuning in.

Oh, who am I kidding. I'm getting more and more addicted to this RB playing/reporting thing. And a chance to actually start from the ground floor? Yeah, go ahead and count me in.
On average, everybody thinks they are above average.

Excellent! I am neck deep in my fist hard game in, well, ok, its been a while. Back when I played MoO in its initial release, I never graduated to impossible, so I have a whole lot of legs left in this game. Nice to see we will be having even more opportunity.

Oh, I like the signature line and avatar, Sirian. Nice to see Ember hanging round these parts again. smile

Well you can count me in. I am also standing by to help out with trouble shooting if anyone needs it. smile

Hi,

like Brackard, I'm hooked up with the concept of several people playing the same game and reporting about it, and like Bam-Bam I never mastered Impossible way back then. So an average game with the Alkaris sounds good, I'll play!

Let's see how the three weeks deadline will work out. I guess an average game of MoO will be faster than your average civ3 game, but I know that writing the report will take me longer. I will leave familiar grounds and enter new territory, so I will try to make my first report as detailed as possible, to learn as much as possible. :-)

I'm certainly hoping MOO games will go quicker than Civ3. My first couple attempts since reinstalling have gone to a vote pretty quickly (one good, one bad...), but they were small and medium maps respectively. Still have to test the screenshot aspect, but I should be good to go by next week!

I'm game... smile

I've been looking forward to a new game for awhile (and a "free" one at that is even better wink ). I am hoping I'll have enough time in the next couple of weeks to complete and report on the Epic.

I hate to sound dumb, however, when perplexed, ask for help, all they can say is no.

I am pretty sure the version of MOO I can run on my xp laptop is 1.0. Is there a way to check for sure? The tournament is supposed to be on version 1.3. I am sure Sirian has said where to get that (underdogs?) but a quick refresher or directions to which of his multiple sites and their subsites where the information is would be um, helpful, to this computer challenged person.

Next issue, downloading the game and map when the imperia is posted on April 5. Mostly I don't do downloads, I don't understand ziping and unzipping and after I download something most of the time I don't know what do do next. This needs to be downloaded and put in the save game files for the MOO game. There were instructions, somewhere, on how to do that. It looked complicated and I don't remember where I saw it.

Assume your Aunt Minnie, who thinks computers may be an instrument of the devil, wanted to play in the tournament. What instructions would you give? I do know the part about turing the computer on.

I think there were pretty comprehensive instructions posted here:

That post is on our old forum, in this long thread, there may be additional info there:

Also I believe Sirian has posted something about getting the game up and running on his website here:

Thank you for trying to help. Maybe I am just too computer challenged to participate. The links provided tell one how to get MOO running. Fortunately I have it running and play pretty much every day. The other links are pretty much how to find Sirian's MOO site. This, too, was not my problem. There is a lot of wonderful information in Sirian's site. The problem is finding where the instructions on downloading the game and making sure it gets into the MOO saved game files so the Imperia can be played. I know its there somewhere, but where?
