Are barbs more frequent/aggressive on Highlands?

In my current Highlands game (Raging barbs turned OFF) It's around 1 AD and I'm noticing that barbs seem to be appearing much more. I just got out of (Or at least I think I got out of) a rather large barbarian war with barbs coming in all directions and pillaging my resources. They seem to be very aggressive, rather than skirting around my borders and having low numbers. They also have stonger units (Haven't seen many barb axemen at all, but I found a few in this game.) Are barbs more aggressive and frequent on highlands (And do they found more cities? I was surprised to see barbs coming from everywhere.)

I am greatly enjoying the Highlands script. It's already one of my favs.

It's probably because much of the land is not owned by anyone, you or the AI. Barbs will sprout from such places, unless you put guards everywhere. wink

Barbs are aggressive in general. There are several kinds of barbarians, actually. There are some who wander, and tend to avoid entering civilized lands. There are some who raid for pillage. There are some who will try to take cities, and these often spawn in "batches" so as to bring pressure from multiple directions at once.

Don't neglect your military!

Highlands is one of those map scripts that has more land plots per civ, in a typical game. The more land per civ, the more and longer there will be unsettled lands, and therefore the more intense will be barbarian activity.
