An idea was floated today suggesting that MOO would be "conducive" to succession play, which might "accelerate" the learning curve and fun factor. Far be it for me to fail to heed this call. I don't have to be prodded twice.

I'd like to play, but I'll give up my slot to anyone who has less games than me under their belt if they want it.
And Charis, don't worry, the Frankish report is coming soon. Out of curiosity did you find the hordes of settler pairs traipsing through France as disturbing as me after playing MOO for a bit?

Saw the title and was hopping in to sign up, but I see floating the
suggestion was good for a slot :D
Average diff, large world, and "Da Bears" for some real combat sounds
particularly good. Let's just say it's a good thing (for timing and availability)
that I just now finished two SG's, and if Kabuki and co. do well, won't see
another turn in a third Ten turns should go by relatively quickly,
so that's good too. (np on the Franks, I hope you're feeling
better Kabuki. In my last turn I saw *so* many hordes trampling our
land that it was invisible to me, which is most unlike my first turn in this
game where I went postal and declared on three civs doing that)
Looking forward to the old prod!

Definitely. How could I ignore a call to arms from an old companion? In this particular situation, that's just not thinkable. You can thank BamBam for the particulars, though. It was your interest in his game that really sparked this. You came up with a lot of clever questions and seem to have been quite interested in his report, actually longing to get even more out of it than he had at that point made available. So it only follows that it would appeal to get the chance to explore a similar situation for yourself. Thus it has to be the Bulrathi.

The Bulrathi can be a lot of fun to play. Then again, each race is fun to play, as each has a different strength which, if specialized, provides quite a bit of strategic variance from the norm. Wait until you see my next solo report, a Darloks game. You mention particular curioisity about spying. Well... I'll definitely be touching on that subject in that report.
And that brings up the point of potential variants down the road. The gameplay and strategy vary widely when each race plays to its strength. It could be quite entertaining, in a way that might strike a chord with you, when a scenario calls for playing to a weakness. For example, a dedicated spy strategy as the Bulrathi, a Mrrshan whose sole aim is to befriend her Alkari neighbor, or a game of Psilons using pointy stick instead of self-research, and other such oxymorons. But we have a ways to go with the standard game before that sort of exploration would be timely.

When will this be starting? If I don't have to start my tun until after April 26th, count me in. If this isn't possible, then I'll have to pass, even though I'd love to get into this game and learn from vet players. I would probably slow the game down anyway, since Idfdf've never played MOO before.

We'll be starting within days. We may be done by the 26th.
I'm sure there will be more opportunities, though. There are a healthy number of folks playing, and from what I've seen, they are all having a good time. Check back when you're available and see if other games are forming up then. And if you've never played MOO, I'm sure you'll still benefit from reading the reports.

Sign me up! Although I'm not a newbie to MOO, I would fit more in the "Rusty Veteran" category , and could certainly use the chance to get my 'space legs' back again. Plus I learn so much more from SGs, seeing the decisions made in context, actually getting involved in discussions, etc.

Bugger. You took away my next game idea. I was planning on playing one of the races you or I had not played and posted reports (ok, well you have five vs. my one). The only two (besides the Alkari, but the Imperium covers them) that have not had initial reports are the Psilons and Humans, both of which I am not particularly inclined to play. Of course...I have been meaning to bump up to Impossible...

Hi,
if Charis' predictions are right, I will have the honour of finishing up one of the civ3 SGs I'm in, and certainly won't see that game again if not. So I'd be in my "two SGs at a time" limit for this one.
Up until now, my decisions in MoO where guided by my gut feelings, which is good enough for "hard" difficulty. The more intense play of an SG would be the perfect opportunity for me to have a look at numbers and inner game mechanics! But I'm not a total newbie, so if there are others with less experience that want to play I'd be fine to stand aside and let them join instead.
