I like Imp, spi, ind, and phi. All of them seem like they should be significantly improved in the medieval era. The raw strength of Fin and Org means they may still be competitive but I don't think I want to play them.
Civs don't feel very powerful, except for Portugal or the Dutch, which are map dependent.
Let's go with:
1. Suleiman(Phi/Imp) of Maya
2. Ghandi (Spi/Phi) of China
3. Justinian (Imp/Spi) of Mongolia
4. Augustus(Imp/Ind) of Greece
5. Lizzy (Fin/Phi) of Portugal
6. Roosevelt(Ind/Org) of Dutch
7. Asoka(Org/Spi) of Eygpt

I am very courious how suleiman will work here, as you'll get benefit late from phi so from beggin you will rely just on Imp or you plan fr a fast academy?i supose that depends on alnd as well.
My thinking behind Phi is that when you can get (almost) full value bulbs immediately, it has to be good. If I get Suleiman I'll probably try push expansion super hard, only building cottages in my capital and teching with GP. Hopefully the game will be won or we'll get to communism by the time the increasing gpp costs start to slow me down. I'm not too sure about an early academy, on the one hand it's good with bureau, on the other hand my slider might be pretty low. I'll have to think about it a bit more. I'm also interested in bulbing CS and Music early but the GP slots might be tough to get.
That's just rough thoughts, I haven't settled on anything yet while the pick and the start are still up in the air.
Someone else going for a Phi Civ is a slightly annoying, but I should have expected Ghandi would be picked up by somebody. Didn't think it would be GJ though, thought he wasn't a big fan of Phi. I'll have to think about the Music bulb.
Thinking about starting off in Caste, getting the GM quick to bulb CS then revolting into Bureau+Slavery(immediately whipping some pop into settlers). I reckon the GM would cost me roughly a settler in expansion which seems worth such an early Bureacracy. I doubt I'm going to be able to pair Bureau with a golden age, so I'll be taking two revolt turns somewhere along the way anyhow. Then save gold for ages while generating an academy?
Trying to figure if it's possible to fit a Music bulb in there too but it's difficult. Part of the problem is that the free great artist is not actually very valuable. It bulbs into Theocracy which I'm not too interested in, so I'd be saving it for a bomb or a golden age, neither of which would happen for ages. The border popping aspect of Music is a big draw though. I don't think GJ will be too interested in Music for this reason, with constant access to Caste he doesn't need build culture. He might want to bulb Theo for the monk economy. I find it hard to see anyone going for Music first over Bureau.
Need to see the start before making firm plans though ...
2 missionaries; probably want to put one in the second city for the border pop and leave the capital empty waiting for a free spread. What to do with the second guy ... go scouting?
Here we go, game starts on T125 so 20t for a GM. Capital is sitting at 28/148h in a settler, ready to 2-pop bureau/imp whip it. Need to see how this compares to a slavery start. At first glance the second city would be 1t ahead if I started in slavery, the capital needs more examination since I didn't sit at size 1 building a worker there, I just grew it. So it's roughly what do I prefer; working two 3/0/2 tiles or whipping those off into an earlier worker.
Tech also seems pretty explosive here, and I'd have the gems up earlier if I went with slavery. So I don't get as many 'free' bureau turns as I was hoping. On the other hand Bureau is probably better than normal with such a souped up capital.
I went with the Caste system revolt but I think I found a better opening, racing even faster for the GM and building no workers until we get slavery to whip them in.
The map is apparently massive, ~280 tiles per person. I guess some of it might be ice/desert.
