Can't Get MOO1 to run, Please Help

Hello.

I have come to you seeking help.

I've downloaded MoO 1 from :http://www.jonsullivan.com/misc/moo.php3

I downloaded the whole game, NOT the individual disk download.

I unzipped all the files, but I can't get the game to run.

OK, that's not entirely accurate. I got it to run once. But not again. Now when I click on the .exe, it tells me it needs to run in DOS mode (I understand), but won't launch. When I go to DOS mode, it tells me to install the game. Everything is unzipped and sitting on my E: drive

Additionally, the sound won't work at all. Could this be because the SoundBlaster emulator on this computer's soundcard is deactivated?

I've tried to reinstall it using the install.exe, but it keeps asking for disks.

In the one time I did get the game to run, the battle screen was terribly slow.

I'm running my wife's Dell Pentium 2, Windows 98 128mg ram TBS Montego soundcard

Any help would be appreciated. I've been wanting to play MoO again for a while now.

Cheers Herb, glad to have you on board.

I'm just going to point you in the right direction as I am no expert on the matter.

Take a look at the other threads around here in particular this one as it has links to the key resources. This is a way better resource than my following suggestions that are being made just before heading out into the beautiful west coast sunshine. :D

My other recommendation is as follows:

1. Download the disk version, unzip them into a directory and install them. Then try again.
2. Run it without sound. This is one of the main issues with old games, and to be honest I haven't even tried, mostly because this is at the moment my only computer and I can't afford to take any chances.

Hopefully this helps somewhat.

Thanks! That looks like it will help.

The funny thing is, I didn't have this problem on my previous computer. Gateway P2 with Win 98. I installed Orion on there and it worked just fine.

go figure
