Lurker Thread - No Players!!!

Playing without power graphs certainly has implications:

Kylearan Wrote:Whosit's forest chopping has revealed his welcome committe in case I invaded him: 4 catapults and 2 horse archers (plus the two axes and spears he now has moved to protect his workers).

In fact, if he moved in with these units, I'd be in some trouble as my main forces are in the east right now, and "main forces" here really is an euphemism for "token army". lol If I get seriously attacked in the next 10 turns or so, I'm toast. I'll be pumping military units soon, but until then I can only hope Whosit and Darrell leave me alone. I feel this kind of gambit is the only chance I have at the moment.

Whosit Wrote:I've teched Metal Casting, only Forge I started is in Valhalla, but since all it has is hammers, worth it. Kinda wish it had something to build besides units, 'cuz my costs are getting crazy. Maybe I'll build a couple more Sentry Chariots and see what's going on, but even with all the siege and such I've build, I do not think that I have the power to take down any of Ky's cities. He had a crap ton of units before. I think if I got 20 catapults I could do it, but I don't know.

Whosit really seems to want to build wonders- that really doesn't seem like a good idea to me. (and why'd he build the war weariness wonder, isn't that disabled in always war?)

No, it isn't. War Weariness is reduced in Always War, but it's not entirely gone. And since you never stop warring, it can get quite a pain as the game drags on. If memory serves, one of the objectives of the Civ4 mod in the General Forum was to remove WW from Always War games.

Krill's wiping the floor with the other players. Can't really congratulate him on that though, that would be kinda spoilerish. tongue

darrelljs Wrote:Err...yeah. Sorry again. Quick summary is I took sunrise089's front line city. He is teching for muskets, I get Guilds next turn. He doesn't have what it takes to wrest the city from me yet (I built Chichen Itza and whipped a Wall, and a Castle is coming online soon (yay for Stone)).

The real question is did I miscalculate and not realize Kylearan had a one move attack option on my city, or did I to notice his units position themselves on the previous turn? He razed my SW city and has nasty longbows on hills around my NW city. Not sure what else he can do tbh, I need to spend some time with the save. Oh, he did that with Knights as well.

Darrell

Darrell probably doesn't realize that Kylearan has engineering.

This is as good a time as any for a summary post, although the very sparse updates from many of these players makes it tough.

Krill pretty much has the Veteran game won at this point, barring something crazy happening. With all of the graphs turned off, the others don't even realize what an advantage he has in tech/food/production/etc. I think researching Alphabet was a very nice move, to keep tabs on where everyone else is located with their research. That has more value than usual in a game where the graphs are disabled. (Maybe others have done this too and just not posted about it, I dunno.) As in every other game, economic buildup > wars of attrition. Krill gained the most cities peacefully, and has the best economy, so he should win without too much trouble.

sunrise was doing well earlier, but then darrell attacked and put him behind. Cyneheard has just been out-settled by Krill on their front lines, and lost the early lead from wonders. Kylearan and Whosit have played rather unfocused games from what I've seen (sorry guys but it's true!) and weren't able to put themselves in positions to be competitive. Now there's warfare between sunrise/darrell/Kylearan, and also Whosit/Cyneheard... with Krill still facing no hot wars and teching upwards. GG?

The non-vet game is even more lopsided, with Kyan crushing everyone else in every conceivable way. Strangely, everyone seems to still like Kyan diplomatically, for some reason. Partitioning Cull's land just made Kyan that much stronger. Now Twinkletoes and Jowy are apparently going to war (the two weakest civs in the game) and Kyan can wait for them to bloody each other and then snap up one or both of them. I don't see much of a longterm plan from seifer or Malakai, although again they all post so rarely it's tough to tell what's going on. Kinda funny that Jowy always seems to be embroiled in a war or dispute of some sort. lol

Overall, I'd be pretty shocked if Krill and Kyan didn't coast to easy victories from their current positions.

With Krill still building up in "peaceful" mode, and Cyneheard keeping Whosit busy, it will be interesting to see if Darrell might fold under the joint pressure from Kylearan and Sunrise.

It's a shame that Darrell, Sunrise and Cyneheard update their threads so infrequently.

Krill has a silly tech lead...

He is on RP already - Kylearan (sorry to pick on you but you are the only one updating regularly other than Krill) is looking at Paper and then going back for CoL...

This game will be over as soon as Krill get UniSuf and buys an army.

And Krill's capital at 100% research produces as many beakers as Kylearan's entire civ at 80% (don't have a recent screenshot of Kylearan's output at 100%, but that is still a ridiculous statistic). This game is well past done; I doubt even a dogpile on Krill could stop him from winning at this point.
