[SPOILERS!] I am Molach. This is my thread. Kublai Khan of Rome

Nothing much has happened, really.

But this turn I finished iron working.

Ugh.

Two sources of iron visible. Western I can easily claim. My borders will expand in 25 turns, for one. I can also plant a city up there to secure it, even on top of the iron.

But wheres the food?

Heres two takes...red dot can go 1 south ON the iron, or anywhere around it. Teal dot is the one that grabs food second ring. So real discussion is, settle a crap city near the resource to gain better control over it, or settle a long-term better city, but with a weaker zone of control over the iron? Weserübung will help with culture in 25 turns. But nightmare will be a wetbandit city 1NW of iron, will grab the resource right away. He might have iron working, he might see that as the spot to get at all costs.
Red dot has quite a few forests, can chop out a wonder, or some wonderful praetorians from there.

A settler is done in 3 turns. I've got a chariot up here, scouting a bit to see if there's anything on the row 4 North of iron. Can also see what the bandits are up to.

Eastern iron is in a great location, but that is far. Very far. I could place a intermediate city, and then a next one on the iron. That is a decent plan down the line, but will need a more solid economic base to push that far. After currency or CoL it's fair game.

What about that hill with the BEAR T43? I don't know how close that is to Wetbandit so it may not be practical but it's on a hill, has two peaks on the NW and NE diagonals (prevent surprise attacks), claims a grass cow and puts iron safely backlines. It's a bit of a reach at 4 tiles from your nearest city, but you're creative Rome! Have the workers in place to connect iron ASAP (road the tile before the border pops, and 3 workers can build a desert mine in 2 turns) and chop/whip a couple Praets and you're safe until catapults.

You'd need to hold the BEAR city for about 10 turns after founding before whipped Praets can reach from your Gold city or the one to its west.

Damn thread keeps dropping like a rock in this forum....thanks for the lifts smile

I actually saw too - Bear Hill works. It is ON my midway point between me and wetbandit, but his city (that he stole from Azza) is too, so that equals out. If not something I see up there changes my mind, I'm somewhat set on settling bear hill next.

Now which operation to name that city after....

Today's discovery - our chariot finds another Cow. It seems friendly.

So 3 food resources in 'range', just only 1 at a time. Wellwell. 2 N of Iron is doable too, coast and cow, can work some hills for prod.

Also included - some crazy buggers build the great lighthouse. Hm, why didn't we ban that thing....rolleye

Can you settle the "Bear T 43" tile or is it blocked by wetbandit?

How much culture Weserübung has?
Reply

As far as I know, Bear hill is settlable.

Weserübung has 50/100 culture, 25 turns unless I build a library there or something.

Hey Ichabod!

See anything worth commenting?

All good, so no comment?
Or all completely hopeless, so beyond comment?

I have quite a few trees around my lands. Taking bets as to what I'll use 'em for....

Okay playing now....

...did nothing much. End turn. Good thing no real decisions to make tonight.

Too drunk to post pics n stuff.

I am updating!

I am no longer as think as you drunk I am.

Once upon a time, in the east:
There was a worker mining the hill. I chased him off with my warrior - he wasn't going to do anything, just takin' a stroll.
By the way, I put down the "Airstrip two" sign 50 turns ago...pretty obvious location.

Western city - when it grows, I see no reason not to double-whip it - happiness is not limiting here, and number of improved tiles to work is still pretty low. Two.
After chops Improving cows is good. But next - cheap library to run two scientists and really push out my culture here? (For safety, obviously. Not aggressive. No siree) Or settler and get the "city around here" spot (not great spot, mainly to secure border. But I might wait for praets to do it)

And I noticed this....probably after borders popped. Which means I've been a bit lazy.
I've got the fishing, sailing might be quick, settle that spot for copper? Again, post-praetorian Rome probably should not ASK to settle aggressively - it's what we do. Hopefully Azza is still angry with Wetbandit.

Sorry for the long time with no comments. I think you are doing very well on your own. Regarding strategy, I think we can do a whole lot of things. We could peacefully expand, chopping a lot of settlers. We could get a Praet + Cats stack and go conquer Azza + whatever else is near. It all depends on what you want to do with the game.

Fortitude could very well get a library. You could work two scientist for an academy at the Capital, that's always good.

I like the island city and I thought the same thing when I looked at the game. But I'd only advise settling there if we are definetely going to war against Azza.

I'M GOING TO WAR AGAINST THE WORLD! I SETTLE WHERE I WANT!
(Oh no, not you again...)
WE HAVE IRON NOW, SO I'M HERE TO STAY
(Actually, we don't. Had to wait for chariot to secure the area, and we are settling 2 North of Iron, so we have no iron for 7-8 turns still)
....

Okay.

Chariot checked out the area, all clear. Settler moved there this turn, settle next. Unless enough people think I should settle 1 N instead. I have 2 chariots in defense here. I'm actually highest in soldier count as well. Wetbandit has chariots, or rather immortals but haven't seen metal units from him yet.

Cities. Fortitude. I whipped the granary for 2 pop (off unimproved tiles) - and 2 chops came in. So 1t library. Gonna grow on a work boat I think, see what the coast looks like. Will need it for copper city or for deer-city south of capital.[Image: v0u.jpg]
Obviously gonna run scientists as soon as I can - I think I'll run one when it grows while I wait on cow pasture, then keep working that and 2 scientists when city is maxed. There should still be some slight growth potential then,

Overlord. I started a library while growing, but now at max size a worker is better.
Cottages will grow in 1t, 3t and 10t. Makes me want monarchy to work more of these lovely cottage-things...

Weserübung. It had to whip a worker couple turns ago, building library while growing back a bit. Will switch to a whatever when it's at max (settler or worker...perhaps settler).
I'll resist temptation of finishing library here...would give 2-3 beakers when at 100% tech...but so would a new city. And land is too precious just now. Got some more cities to put up.

But where? My south-west needs to be settled...A barb city has sprung up.

NE - I want that plains hill "NE-frontierville". Couple of riverside cottages and it pays for itself. And it can build.
Also notice I met WilliamLP here, he must be to the far NE somewhere. Set some EP on him

NW - leaning towards the southern city sign..."City around here". Northern gets some more land, but 'how much land does a man need'? Too bad no hills to settle on. However I have Praets.

Demos:

I suppose some opinions on the way further are in order. I might have praets soon. My lands are pretty richly forested. My eastern neighbour has low power, and a fully functional gold mine.

COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF
