[BTS] Civ IV Newbie Succession Game - Monarch - Beginning now!

No worries Hart, we'll officially skip Tasunke, so you're up and then i'm up again next.

Short term goals - get more workers, get a third settler and settle the copper

Long term goals - get to Monarchy and Mathematics for HR and chop efficiency

Turn played.

Full report w/ screenshots to come tomorrow. At the top of 100 we are 1 worker action away from having copper connected. Aiur has produced 2 workers and is ready to start growing again while building a library. Hiigara has whipped a second worker and after 2 chops has completed a Granary and is 3 turns from normal happiness levels. The new city, dubbed Shakuras, is slowbuilding a worker, which is due to complete in 6-turns by working the copper. Overall, we have a +1 gold surplus at 70% research, with Meditation complete this turn or next. That only leaves Priesthood and Monarchy.

In the next block of turns we need to decide if we're going to whip axes and nothing but, or try and build our economy a bit so we can sustainably expand and grow our military.

I will be able to play tomorrow as well and I will write the report as I go, so I'll grab the save from you once you post up your report, then I'll play my turns.

Honestly, I will defer to the expertise of more experienced players on whether we should rush a military, crush HC and then consolidate using HR for happiness, or sustainably build an army and then go to war.

Whipping has the advantage of being quicker, I assume, giving less time for border pops on new cities and thus less warning when we do attack.

In my singleplayer games I have only played one game where I went for a massive early war to clear out a neighbour who started way too close for comfort. I had three cities and I smashed his three, razing one and absorbing two. I spent a period of time consolidating and rebuilding using my army to keep my cities happy while whip unhappiness wore off and cottages were added, but that may not be the most optimal path. It was only on Noble.

My bad for missing the turn, I got sick on Saturday and my son got sick Sunday (the first).

I'll try to keep a closer eye on this one in the future wink

no worries mate, things happen. You can take your turn after Hart if you want to participate sooner. I don't mind.

opened the save from Hart at turn 100 and took a look around

I'll wait to play until I've read Hart's report so i can get an idea of our goals, and also to give everyone a chance to chime in on our discussions about where to go next

Some lurking comments:
I would not have slowbuilt a worker in the new city. Capital can quickly build one after it grows to happy cap in 2 turns. You have 5 workers too, no very pressing need. 3 of them are building improvements that won't be used to 30 turns...

New city has unimproved pigs. That tile is +3 food improved, very good return on invested worker turns. It's been inside culture for 7 turns. City 3 wanted to be at size 2 working copper and pigs as soon as possible.

However with 6 workers you can chop men with axes (ironically not the other way around) pretty quickly...

I agree, I would normally have chopped that worker out or just grown. But when that city was built, we still only had 2 workers. I don't expect to need to build any more workers for at least 2 more cities.
