Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Whosit Plays Alone for Fun (and Profit?)

OK, hilariously, Grimace and Dreylin settled their third cities this turn. So I'm not slower than the EXP and IMP neighbors, but I'm willing to bet a lot that their third cities are in much better locations.

It's a warrior-palooza!

Not doing half badly, but only if I can keep this up for another 50 turns at least.

Altering worker micro a bit. Will chop into a Worker at Euphoria instead of wasting turns roading to 4th city spot. Gets me another worker a couple turns earlier. Need to think of name for next city. It is also going to grow rather slow. I've been assuming a Granary first build, but I might just want Barracks first to pop borders and get those hill sheep connected all the sooner. Dry wheat and sheep is only a +6 food bonus, but still a fair sight better than just +4.

Oh, yeah. I see what looks like coast in the first screenshot. Assuming my "Diplomat" survives the next few turns (wouldn't put it past Grimace to kill my warrior if he ends up wounded), I want to investigate. I still think it's possible that we're on three 3-player continents.

Looks like Yuri got city 4 on turn... whatever we were on. 49?

Now it's turn 50. I don't have an awfully impressive empire.

Also, Barb trouble. Spotted a barb on my borders last turn, to the west, and sure enough this turn he stepped onto my sheep. Got an axe in range to defend, but can't kill this turn. Warrior blocking other way. If I'm lucky, the Barb will beeline the empty city and not pillage my improvement. Losing the sheep would be a pretty big blow right now.

In the west, barb troubles in the form of a double promoted warrior. Looks like that barbarian won a low odds battle against Grimace's warrior, if I had to guess. I'm good with that. Hurts him a bit.

In the event that my sheep gets pillaged, I'll just 2 pop whip the settler as soon as possible, which I think... with 30 hammers invested this turn at 16 per turn with no sheep, is in 2 turns at 62 hammers invested.

I also forgot what my worker micro around Euphoria was supposed to be, so I improvised. See, I'm not trying too hard! I only put down a vague outline of a micro plan and relied on my notoriously poor memory to handle the rest!

Oh, yeah, T50 and no religions founded. After Archery, I was originally planning to get Writing, but maybe I'll try for Polytheism. Hopefully it founds in my newest city. Hmm... Serenity? Of course, with my luck, someone will beat me to it.

I just noticed that it doesn't look like Yuris updates his thread. I could be wrong about what his opening was, but I'd be pretty disappointed if I was right and there wasn't a record of it for me to look at after the game. Would it be a spoiler issue if a lurker asked Yuri to talk about his opening in the event it wasn't recorded?

Turn 51 junk:

Worker stuff in the next several turns should be relatively efficient. When I sandbox out to my 5th city, things get kinda... bad. I probably need to have a better sense of the timing on that. And I don't think I want to whip my capital too much after that. Grow, grow, grow!

Picture spam, I guess??

Couple turns ago, lumberjacked this warrior. Now, there's another warrior skirting my borders to the west. I'll have to either settle out there soon(ish) or find an extra unit to barb bust (unlikely). City 5 will be settled in T65, I think, so maybe Horse city for #6?

Somehow, there was something off in hammer production in the capital between real game and sim. I thought I accounted for barb, but might be that when I whipped, the real game governor did something different and I didn't pay attention. I think I have that corrected, though.

So, one turn after starting Meditation, Buddhism falls. Dang. Would have loved to be a peaceful Buddhist. Making an attempt at Hinduism now, but it's going to take me like 10 turns, so that's probably going to be another wasteful dead-end. Oh well! Worth a shot. Not sure who got it though. Maybe Fenn?

Poking around down here.

Capital and new city.

Noticed that Dreylin settled last turn, before me, so I'm taking a look down here. It's gonna be a race! He could easily block me off depending where he settles next and how long it takes him to do so.

I feel like I'm taking the brunt of all the Barbarian activity here.

Not the worst place that barb could have gone to, but I pretty much have to hope my warrior succeeds on the defense. I'm gonna fiddle around in WB to see what my odds are, I guess. Will my Warrior get 20% fortification before the Barbarian attacks? Between the natural city defense, my AGG bonus, and fortification, I should handily win the battle (about a 50% bonus), but we've all lost battles like this, too.

There's also a barbarian poking around on my western borders still, so my wounded axe has to stay there to keep an eye on things. I'm going to need another axe soon, though I wish I had the horses for more mobile chariots.

I moved here last turn, and Dreylin hasn't acted yet, so I didn't finish my turn. But if I don't see a unit defending that city before the turn is over, I'm going to move onto the forest and see what happens.

OK, looks like the Barbarian has about 10% chance to wipe my 4th city out. It's not much, but it's enough to be worrisome. Nothing I can do now but pray to the RNG.

It's what I get for settling on flat ground, I guess.
